North or South Carolina at the end of March/April
Due to knee replacement we will not be able to travel to Florida this winter. So we are looking for suggestions to stay either on the NC or SC coast for a few weeks at the end of March beginning of April. Also would like thoughts on Military campgrounds in the area. Thanks

There’s always Edisto Beach SP, my personal favorite, but don’t know if you can find a vacancy.
And that may be true for anything coastal on such short notice.
Good luck,
Maggie

We have a lot at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina. We've been there several times. You can access the beach, bicycle Pinckney Island, hang out in Bluffton for the day, or go to Savannah. The Savannah NWR is a nice drive through, maybe see some gators.
HOWEVER, if I had military credentials, I'd be sure to check out the campground on Parris Island. Beaufort is a nice town, and you have a short drive to Hunting Island State Park. Parris Island has a nice Military Museum, it's worth the visit, even if you don't camp there.
If you do Hilton Head, I recommend free parking at Chaplin Community Park, it gives decent access to a nice beach, or, at low tide, hit Fish Haul Beach off Mitchellville Road, wide open flats at low tide, it's awesome.

How about Ocean Lakes RV Park, right on the ocean in South Myrtle Beach, SC, at the end of March for the Region 3 Rally? We attended this Rally two years ago and fell in love with the Park! Went back on our own this year with grandkids and will attend this year's Rally as well!

For Airstreamers I'll double your recommendation to the OP to stay at Ocean Lakes for the April 1-5 Region 3 Rally. But anyone wanting to go to that Rally needs to MOVE FAST. I waited three days after the first alert went out and the HH and H were filled but -I- section was open, so I called and I think I got the last spot in section -I-. The closer you can get to the Rec Center the better. Tell them you're an Airstreamer coming to the Region 3 rally when you phone them, I think they may have a price consideration. On the other hand, Paris Island could be a great choice too, but remember to leave all of your firearms home, because I've always been asked entering a military base, post, etc. if I have any firearms, and after recent events they will be even more careful. Two good choices, good luck on your recovery.

Go as far south as possible. NC coast can be very windy and freezing cold that time of year.
Make reservations. Lots of snowbirds from Florida will be going north during that time.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore has several campgrounds right on the water, but none with electrical hookups that I recall. So that might not be a good option for Mar/Apr. Carolina Beach State Park is an option almost in SC, but it is on the Cape Fear River and inland waterway, not ocean. Near Wilmington and Carolina Beach. I can't remember about hookups, since it has been several years since I was there.
Medoc Mountain State park in NC is a good place for an overnight when traveling along I-95 in NC. Not much to do, other than hike and see wildlife. If you are interested there is a great bird sanctuary nearby. There is a KOA nearby but I was treated rudely by the owner (my recommendation to stay away from this KOA)
I've stayed at Huntington Beach State Park, Hunting Island State Park, Edisto Beach State Park, all in SC, are all good choices.
If you are going that far, it's only a little further to Skidaway Island, a GA state park about 15 minutes from the SC border. They have full hookups and cable TV. Not far from Savanah GA, so great seafood, shopping, and sightseeing are nearby. Also not on the water, but close.
ps:
Sorry you could not make it south this winter. It's 80F right now in central FL ;-)

I would find a campground near the beach so you get weather warmed by the ocean. Inland areas will be cooler in most cases.

I agree Ocean Lakes is nice.
If you are staying more then 2 weeks you may want to avoid state parks if you have trouble relocating since many have a max 2 week stay.

I notice a lot of folks have recommended Ocean Lakes. We found that campground to be noisy, sometimes crowded with a lot of teenagers driving around in golf carts and partying. Our family prefers nearby Pirateland Campground. It is much quieter than Ocean Lakes with larger lots, miniature golf, an indoor heated pool, olympic sized outdoor pool, tennis courts, fishing lakes and a lazy river pool. Our family has been camping there during summer vacations for 30 years. Our son takes his family there having grown up camping there. There are lots of shady camp sites on the inland side and the ocean area sites have 10 x 12 pavilions on each site. If you have kids you will find it to be a great place for them. Security is excellent at both parks and to their credit at OL they make a real effort to keep the rowdy teens in line. We plan to attend the Region 3 rally this spring but will do so staying at Pirateland.

I would echo the advice of others for any of the 3 coastal state parks in SC — Huntington Beach, Edisto Island, and Hunting Island. All very nice with hookups but hard to get a beachside site. Check daily for cancellations.
