North Cascades National Park
We're planning a trip this Fall that will take us to Yellowstone, then North Cascades NP. We'll probably arrive in North Cascades around the end of September. I'm looking for suggestions on where to camp in the park as well as any advice for places to stop over as we motor from Yellowstone to North Cascades. We like to kayak, so any suggestion on where to put in would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Paul

For North cascades, if you come in from the east side, Winthrop is a great spot to spend the night - try the Pine Near RV Park first - hookups but camping on grass, sites are level, spacious (30' wide) and gravel roads. The park is one block off the main part of the small downtown and right next to the museum. They have a great vintage rally, however, in September - which is part of the "Wheels in Winthrop" theme so classic cars, tractors and lots of classic AS and other vintage trailers. Don't get too excited - I tell you because it is NOT available then - sold out for months. But, if your plans in September are not at that time, try them at Pine Near RV Park & Campground ~ Tipis, Mining Shack Cabins, Laundry - ask for Anna.

We stayed at Newhalen campground. Just about everybody was carrying kayaks or canoes. In Winthrop we stayed at the state park. Just be sure to get a site in the east side campground, the west side is a hovel. Right on the lake and full hookups.

I just googled Wheels in Winthrop and it looks to be a one-day event Sep 12, so that shouldn't be a factor as we'll be there a couple weeks later. The campground looks beautiful!

I live in Winthrop and can vouch for the Pine Near CG. The KOA is also conveniently located and is nice. The rivers here may be too low for a kayaking this year in Sept.if going through Wenatchee, the Confluence state Park is very nice with full hookups, large park and River. In Twisp, 9 milesfromWinthrop, the River BendCG is very nice as well and on the river..

Camping in North Cascades
Howard Miller Steelhead Park is a great campground, right on the Skagit river.

Perrygin lake and state campground are excellent. it will be too late for reservations but you should be OK. drought has impacted every corner of this state so pay attention to the fire news. right now, big fires down around lake Chelan so very smokey, not very pleasant. i doubt they will be out by the end of September so check in advance as a smoke filled campground can be hazardous to your health.
