NM Rt 9, AZ 80, 90, 82, 289 Need advice

We are traveling to CA in January and like to get off the Interstate at every opportunity.
Has anyone taken 9 out of El Paso, and then on across the back roads to Nogales, and even on west on 289, 86, and 85. We are in absolutely no hurry, but don't want to beat our trailer to death.
Thanks for any help you can give,

I've not driven that road, and wouldn't unless I had a US Border Patrol vehicle escort.

I can't say for Route 9 in New Mexico...it pretty much runs along the NM/MX border then swings up to meet 80. 80 is fine...as are 82, 85 and 86...we have towed them with no issues ...they are main routes in SoAZ. I'm not sure about 289 west from Nogales...but if you go a bit north on I-17 you can hop over to 286.

We drove from Nogales eastward taking 82, 80, and 9. We left 9 and headed northward on 146 to I10, mainly because we needed fuel. It was a nice route and would do it again. We liked Bisbee a lot where we camped at a golf course in nearby Naco, literally a stones throw from the border. I remember these roads as all being ok and not heavily traveled. They were scenic, too.
