NM -> Chicago - route suggestions?

Hi folks!

So we posted a few weeks ago, regarding our new airstream and suggestions for getting it from Tucson to Chicago - thanks for all the suggestions.

We purchased a tow vehicle, a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, in LA drove to pick up the AS in Tucson and are now on our way to Chicago. Curious if anyone has any route suggestions? We will be in Las Cruces NM in a couple hours and haven't decided which route to take from there. We would like to stay south for as long as possible to avoid the potential of nasty weather, we were thinking of heading east to Dallas area eventually then shooting northeast from there. Any thoughts?

That is the route I would take from Dallas to Chicago. Weather shouldn't be an iss (normally) till about St. Louis area.

Plenty of good places to eat. Amighetti's in St.Louis for sandwiches to go, etc. Just check up on any 66 route planner or roadfood.com. We ran the portion from Tulsa out of Dallas twice yearly when our son was in college in Chicago.

But there's no real reason to mix with DFW traffic either, over 100-miles of it assuming IH-20 then north on 75 towards Tulsa. US-82 travels the Red River and can intercept the northbound portion into Oklahoma at Dension, TX.
