Nice Camp?, P-cola Nav. Air Museum?, Jan.8-10?

After Canopener, we'd like to see the National Museum of Naval Aviation @ Pensacola. Who has recommendations for camping places? We know about the one nearby [http://naspensacola-mwr.com/leisure/oakgrove.htm] and are interested in what you all know.

PCola Campground

I stayed at this park a couple years ago and it's hard to beat. When it was rebuilt after the hurricanes they did it up right. Not a huge place, which I liked, and it fronts the Gulf. You can walk to the Aviation Museum, very close. And, there is a trail that goes from the campground to the lighthouse which is close by as well.

I went to the Museum in early November and it gets better everytime. Constantly expanding. It's a popular place so don't delay about calling for a reservation.

Picture taken from the top of the lighthouse.

MWR campground is the place to stay. Lots of campgrounds in the P'cola area are still occupied by long term "campers" from all the storms and the influx of labor that goes with it. Not a thing wrong with that but not the same as camping. Do not miss the air museum, it's better than really any I have been to, including the Smithsonian in DC.

See you at Topsail if you want more info.

We have stayed at Oak Grove as well. Right on the beach, walk to the museum.

Should mention it is on the Naval Air Station and use is limited to military/dept of defense/100% VA disabled, with ID card.

We have also stayed at Oak Grove and love it! The camp hosts during the winter months organize pot-luck/happy hour events, chili cook-offs, etc. The staff (MWR) and hosts are top notch in our opinion. One bonus is that this campground does take reservations. If you call and they can't do your exact dates, offer to move around to be accommodated. It has worked for us before and in the end we didn't have to move to stay, they moved the incoming campers to another slot. There are two additional military campgrounds in the P'cola area...one just down the street near the old fort and another west of P'cola (called Blue Angels campground).
