Hi Alan, we are starting to put together the details of our trip and want to spend a few days at LWSP, do you-or anyone have any details about Letchworth SP?

Letchworth is one of our favorite spots for a night or two stopover on the way to points west. The park is very narrow strip running along the Genesee river gorge for about 15 miles. Lots of hiking opportunities. The lodge and falls are toward the southern end. You'll feel like you've traveled back in time, to the 40's say. It's enchanting. You might want to have dinner at the Inn one night, the food is pretty good.
Campground is toward the northern end. They have large, shady electrical sites, and potable water and a dump station are available. They are closed during the winter and early spring, but reservations for May thru Oct can be made through ReserveAmerica.

We stayed at Shalimar Lake on the Canadian side. Acutally stayed there twice in August and September of 06. Had fun meeting Canadians who actually put us on to a good campground in Toronto and invited us to their home for dinner. Don't miss Niagara-on-the-Lake and the wineries!

If you are looking to camp on the Canadian side and want a little more of an upscale place to park your Airstream then check out:

Fifty Point Conservation Area

The park is about 40 minutes from the Falls - but if you are looking for a decent family camping experience you will not regret the distance - reservations are pretty much mandatory. We have in-laws and out-laws throughout the Niagara - Toronto area and always use Fifty Point as our base-of-operations.

As for having your Airstream -disassembled when crossing the border - we cross a number of times each year - can testify to the fact that getting into the States is more onerous than getting into Canada - but regardless - we have never ever had anything more than a minor inconvenience - but - we've learned to cross without perishables in the fridge - meat, vegetables, fruit - unless you want to consider them expendable .....

Looks like we will probably stay at the KOA while at the Falls area and then head to Letchworth for a few days.
How long a drive from Niagara to LW?

Any specific sites to stay at LW?
We have heard the 100 loop is better than some of the other loops?
We have a 6 yr old and will have the dog.

Dave- I was shocked when the Canadian Customs Agent asked me if I was carrying! I wasn't but how did they know? It as a little weird if you know what I mean.

They ask everyone pretty much. They watch your involuntary facial movements. It's their job. They also don't want the citizens being subjected to "unapproved" programing, like Bill O'Reily.

The reason they asked is because they already know if you have a gun license -- they want to watch your reaction too and see if you lie. Keep in mind alot of information is brought up about you on a screen when they enter your license plate into the computer, including any gun permitting information.

I know what you mean by feeling "weird". That's how I felt too the first time it happened to me.

Umm, they've been asking this since at least the early 80's. I recall getting that question when taking a bunch of kids to Nova Scotia in '86 (on bicycles no less, like I want to lug an extra 5lb of useless weight up those hills NO THANKS!) and a different group to Toronto the next year.

For the record, I did not live in a state that had licenses at the time, and if I did, I would not have had a license then.

Just sumpin' they do, 'eh?
