New Orleans RV sites

I am planning a trip to New Orleans in May. Any good recommendations for a good RV sire? Hopefully not too far away so we can drive/Uber in to see the sights.

When we went to New Orleans during Mardi Gras we stayed at the KOA about 10-15 minutes outside the city. Wasn't bad and the location was close enough for us.

We like the French Quarter RV Park, which came up after Katrina and is right on the edge of the French Quarter.

It is gated and secure, and with all the amenities.

It is also a bit pricey, but can be worth it if you want to be close to the Quarter.

Bayou Segnette State Park, just across the river in Algiers, is also a good place to stay, and a 10 minute drive will get you to a ferry into the Quarter.

We staycation at the FQ RV Park. Six times I think. It is nice, very clean, great staff, secure and very convenient, though pricey as Maggie says. Prior to Katrina the area was very sketchy and unsafe at night, but that has all changed. It is on the safe edge of between safe and marginal so just know that. The Greenway, a trail from the French quarter all the way through City Park (Museum, mini golf, golf, Equestrian much more) and on the the lake is very very nice.

Pontchartrain Landing RV Park is also really nice (the park itself). It is on the industrial canal just off the lake so the neighbors are not the most dressed up and it is also on the edge of a marginal residential area (but slowly improving). It is 10-12 min Uber ride to the FQ or Frenchman Street but unfortunately it is in the opposite direction from most of the other places of interest and it is beyond where the lake biking and walking paths end.

Across the lake, so a 45 min drive to the FQ is Fontanebleau State Park. It is very nice but quite far, the causeway has a toll ($5 only pay one way) and the 26 mile crossing is only interesting the first time across.

French Quarter (all of NOLA) is still "closed" to indoor music venues, vocals are still banned, and no dancing. The (commandant) mayor just announced no Mardi Gras Parades, so ....

We've enjoyed out stays at FQRV for its closeness to the Quarter. It is pricey, but you're in NOLA.

When we go out to a nice dinner, we'll walk into the Quarter, have dinner and then Uber back to the park.

We also enjoy Fontanebleu SP. Nice bike trail. One of our favorite seafood restaurants (for crawfish, etc) is Mandeville Seafood,

The KOA does have a shuttle that runs to the French Quarter daily. It's also close to the Miss. River bike trail. The staff is great.

Fairview Riverside State Park on the Tchefuncte River is also across the Causeway. It is between Madisonville and Mandeville. Very nice and quiet.

New Orleans East and Pinecrest RV parks are in Slidell just across the I10 bridge. Adequate but not plush amenities. NO East used to have a shuttle to the Quarter.

FQRV is a temptation but the boss is super noise averse so we've never stayed there. Friends love it but caution that you "don't want to walk home after dark". They say that access is easier than it might appear.

We were in NOLA last March, just before it was shut down. We stayed at St. Bernard St. Park campground. It was very nice & only a short drive to the Quarter.

The only downside was the strange location of the dump station, you have to be coming into the park to access it.

Clean showers with hot water, clean spacious sites, EZ in & out. Highly recommend. Quiet campground.

While we were there, we did not know that it was a COVID hotspot, so when we got home, we sweated out our 14 day quarantine, as we were in crowded closed places like Preservation Hall, shoulder to shoulder! Thankfully we were OK.

We will return to this Park in the future.

I second the French Quarter RV Park. It was $92/night when I was there last year but the proximity to the Quarter made it worth every penny. A perfect place to bike from and the property is really pretty.

St. Bernard is pretty as was mentioned, sits along side the river, though the levy blocks the view. Nice little park great prices at $28 and less and close to Chalmette Battlefield (1812 Battle of New Orleans) No sewer hookups if I recall correctly. 20-30 min from the Quarter depending on traffic and how you catch the street lights. Upriver just a bit back in New Orleans are the three Steamboat Style houses along the levy, they are fun to stop and look at.

Pineview and New Orleans East are not much to write home about. Not trashy but not serene either and further away.

We almost never stay at commercial campgrounds. It’s State and Federal parks all the way for us. Our one exception is French Qtr RV. We’ll be there in April heading west.

Have not been there for about 4 years but Bayou-Segnette State Park just across the river from FQ and downtown with a nearby ferry was a good option.

Tom,
Having a daughter who lives in NOLA we have extensive experience with the local campgrounds.
If you want convenience French Quarter RV is the place. Walking distance to the Quarter. First class operation and very secure. As in anything the closer you are to the action the more it costs. $110.0 plus per night.
Ponchatrain Landing RV is in NOLA east on the industrial canal. Very nice and well run. They have there own restaurant and lounge on site. 15 minutes from downtown. About half the price of FQRV.
Bayou Segenette State Park is on the west bank across from downtown NOLA. Beautiful rural Quiet setting. Well run and maintained. Very secure. $25.00 per night. 20 to 30 minutes from downtown depending on time of day.
FYI we are in Lafayette and offer free overnight stay with full hookup for our AS stream friends. Since our daughter works for a large museum in The Quarter we can make suggestions of things you might want to visit while there. Some of them definitely off the beaten path.

An excellent suggestion, we have stayed there and by taking the short ferry ride you avoid the parking problems and arrive in the heart of the city.

The best place, a very nice RV park is the French Quarter RV Resort at 500 N. Claiborne Avenue New Orleans, LA 70112.

It's a block from the Quarter, very clean and nice facilities.

(If we didn't have a place in the Quarter, it's where we'd take our 23FB Flying Cloud.)

Fyi, So FQRV is a verrrrry long block and then one normal block from the edge of the French Quarter and only because the streets don't go through due to a huge public re-purposed parking lot. Then there are five more blocks to get to Bourbon. Still it only takes 7-10 minutes

To Bayou Biker's point - I can't think of a better campground where bikes are so handy.
