New Mexico

Heading out from Alabama to explore western New Mexico.
Off work from 3rd shift Friday morning...on the road @ 7 am!
A great start.
Balloon Fest in Albuquerque was timed just right...and a Johnson OB from ebay needed to be picked up there too...what luck.

Will have to post in stages...

Are we there yet?

Things you see heading down the road...

Arkansas rest area...I need a rest

Kept going to the other side of Oklahoma City...
Sunrise at El Reno, Oklahoma

Dang the wind!
At least was from the side and not a head wind.

Time was more important than MPG...at this point.

What a great name for a exit

We landed at noon...great time to get there...not much traffic

Stop in Ojo Caliente on your way north... you can thank me later. Allow yourself many hours and take a long soak in the Arsenic Pool for me

nice photos

Thanks for sharing...

What is the connection with Liberator?

We have a friend who was a nose gunner in a B24 Liberator in the Pacific WWII...

Just wondering about the connection...if any.

Great photos!

Great pictures Klattu. I was hoping to go this year, but signed up too late. I just looked at next year's prices for VIP.

HOLLY SMOLLY , up to $85 from $65. I know it's just supply and demand, but I still say it's legalized robbery.

Are those elevated shots taken from the Presidents camp ground?

Yes...Presidents lot.
Hold on to your wallet when you call.
I knew this was a one time trip, so went beyond normal.
Really was nice to wake up right there.
I would never recomed driving in each morning.
We would turn on the TV while waking up and see the traffic reports... "if your not in line, stay home" they would say.
Presidents lot was not where the rally was...but the best location with power and water.
1 free pump every three days.
We only stayed there Saturday thru Tuesday...then went touring New Mexico.

Yummy

This is why we went...won on ebay

Sky...
Dad was a tailgunner over the krautsland with the 8th.
He made it back in good shape, no longer physicaly with us though.
We liked the aircraft look and needed a name when we're out on the road feeling free...fit perfecty for us.

Move along...move along...
Croud control, so cool!

I gotta start watching more cartoons, cause I have no idea...

This 'The Balloon Guy'
You will see him on TV each day.

During the competition drop, they fly by low and try to hit targets laid on a grid.

The 'Box' was perfect Tuesday for this...
Balloons could fly south by staying low...
The rise and fly north to get another chance.
Was strange to see your fav balloon disapear off over town, then look up and there he is again.

The Gas Guys

Now these are the long distance balloons.
They stay up for days vs hours for hot air type.
On the left is Helium......................Right side are Hydrogen
$4000............................................. ................$600
Cost to fill

Helium

Hydrogen

Hydrogen

Each of the gas balloons had to lauch from the same spot.
So they would float over to platform, them take off.
Wind was about zero...and they went straight up.
They also launch at dark vs dawn for the hot air type

Great pics Klattu. After seeing yours, it makes me wonder if the FCU crew were even awake during the day! What's with the outboard?
