We Made it Back to Jacksonville

Lucy pulled out of Lenoir City, Tennessee yesterday morning at about 10:00 AM. We continued south on I-75 through Chattanooga and into Georgia. At Chattanooga we considered taking I-40 east to I-26 to I-95 south. We opted to continue on I-75, through Atlanta, and on to I-10. Due to the time of day
(1:30 PM) we thought that Atlanta would be a piece of cake. This turned out not to be the case. We got through downtown Atlanta on the combined I-75/I-85 with out a hitch. South of Atlanta we hit a significant traffic jam that covered about 30 miles and delayed us about an hour.

The rest of the trip was uneventful, and we finally got on to I-10 right about the time that darkness fell. The final 60 miles into Jacksonville were covered in the dark

We arrived at the Hospice where SuEllyn's Dad is at about 9:30 last night. She got to spend some time with him. Even though he is not communicating with anyone, she felt better having spent that time with him. The Hospice doctors have told SuEllyn's brothers that her Dad has only a day or two left.

We got Lucy all set up in her usual camping spot in SuEllyn's Dad's yard.

I guess that this is the conclusion of Lucy's trip. We hope to get her back on the road in the near future.

I have included a few pictures from the road during the trip home. The last pictures are of Lucy, Fred, and Ethel settled in at their campsite in SuEllyn's Dad's yard in Jacksonville.

Talk to the old boy. Chances are good he can still hear if nothing else. The nurses said that hearing is the last sense to go. I went in to see my dad every day and played my mandolin for him. He never opened his eyes but I saw his left hand fingers moving when I played. He was also a player and he was playing along. That's how I knew that he was still there and glad that I was with him.

Glad you made it, my wife was unable to get to her Mom years ago and to this day it bothers her at times. Prayers.

Glad you guys made it back safely. Very similar to my dads situation a few years back. 97 yrs old as well. I was in NY and had to make it back. It's a stressful time and so glad that you made it safely and in time to spend time with him. Our prayers are with you and the family.

SuEllyn's Dad passed away peacefully at noon today. She is very thankful that she was able to arrive back in Jacksonville in time to be at his side.

We would like to thank everyone here on the Forums for their prayers, thoughts, and concern.

It makes SO much difference to be able to know you did what you could to be there... rather than try to rationalize to yourself the rest of your life, why you weren't. Maybe your Dad was just waiting for you.... When my Mom passed away it was like she was waiting for my sister to arrive... after she did, then she let go. Our deepest condolences...

So sorry for your loss - and trust you will find that your reflections will include lots of warm and comforting memories and a treasuring of the many deep blessings that grow from renewing relationships with family and friends during a difficult time.
