ALL diesel fuel will be ULSD by the end of the year. We will not have a choice.

I have yet to find a single ULSD pump in Georgia.
I am *very* glad I bought an '06. I would have been hosed. (pardon the pun).

Today is the day
Well,
According to the public notices, today is the day that California must have converted to ONLY ULSD at all of the pumps. I will be venturing out here in So Cal to see if it really happened and report back. First, I will have my coffee, high test of course.

The 2007s on the market today are still the "old" engines. In fact you will notice that the Silverado 2500HD is called the "Classic"...awaiting both the new body style and the new Duramax that will be introduced around the first of the year. So you could still get diesel in Geogia for an "old" Duramax 2007 version.
My question is if it is better to buy a 2007 "Classic" with the "old" Duramax or wait for a "new" 2007 or maybe wait for a 2008 after any issues have surfaced.
Since I am stiull early in the search process and don't own the AS yet...I will likely wait and see what happens with the "new" Duramax...and if it is not good...buy a used"old" Duramax.

That is because they will be using the old pumps and tanks. You might be buying ULSD right now and even know it. The stickers on the pumps will remain until all the LSD is purged from station fueling systms.

Once you have ventured forth, please report back on whether or not there is a price difference, I mean price increase of course.

This may account for no decrease in price in diesel while there has been a more than 10% drop in gasoline prices in the last 2-3 weeks in my neck of the metro-Atlanta area.

Well, it’s now here in CA… and it’s required: ULSD…
Ultra Low Sulfur (highway) Diesel fuel.
15 ppm Sulfur vs. 500 ppm Sulfur in LSD.
It’s the ONLY highway diesel fuel available in CA.
It will be available to the rest of USA by 10-15-06.
And REQUIRED nationwide by 12-01-10.
See schedule: http://www.clean-diesel.org/
2007 and later diesels require ULSD…
But 2006’s can run either…
More options when going out of state…
Looks like I’ll buy that 2006 PSD!
Bill (ULSD $3.29/gal. in San Diego 09-01-06)

It's started
My mechanical fuel pump went out yesterday on my Ford/Navistar diesel, a new one was only $25, but I am now nervously awaiting the telltale drip, and odor, of a leaking injector pump. I went down this road in 1990 when the current fuel was mandated, I had to run an additive with the fuel to keep from chewing up the seals in the injector pump. Sigh...

ULSD - Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel
Sooner or later your diesel tow vehicle will run on ULSD fuel…
It’s required in CA. now... and in other states by 12-01-10.
See implementation schedule: http://www.clean-diesel.org/highway.html
Many issues and questions will arise…
2007 diesels require ULSD; models up to 2006 run on LSD or ULSD.
Wiser to buy 2006 model to keep fuel options open when traveling?
...or go with the gas burner? See "Gas vs. Diesel" thread:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f238/gas-vs-diesel-new-world-25248.html
Complex issues related to ULSD and tow vehicles exist.
What are your concerns, questions, and experiences regarding ULSD?
How well is your diesel running with ULSD?
Are you adding any additives, prayers, chants, etc.?
... or perhaps restaurant oil?

Bill,
I just got started on the search for answers! I am running a '97 7.3 PSD (keep on strokin' ) my truck is/was low mileage so I plan on running it for another 10 years. I am beginning to believe I may need an addtive or run a bio mix if available. I am planning on making my own bio in the next several years so it may become a non issue. Currently bio is not readily available where I live or travel. If anybody can get current "real" information of the affect of the ULSD on early model PSD's let me have 'em! I have run B20+ and the truck seems to like it. I am going to be fitting larger tanks in the near future, so when I get the opportunity to fill up with homemade bio, or find a station that sells bio I will be set for 1200 miles or so of driving.

Since over 99% of the diesels sold in the US are not subject to CAFE WHO CARE!!
