New Classic TV

I presently own a 2015 F-150 5.0 V8, 7000# GVWR. 1700#+ Payload rating. I was told by the dealer that my F-150 would be okay to tow the classic. I know a 3/4 or 1 ton would definitely be better but I just want to know if anyone here is currently using the same vehicle and what their experiencing.

I have a 2017 Classic and I would not tow with anything less than 250/2500. Just my opinion. You could tow with less, lots of people have, you could probably tow with a Honda Accord but should you? In retrospect I wish I had a 3500.

I appreciate your reply. That's why I'm surprised at the dealers response.

Dealers will "stretch" the truth to make a sale. They don't have to live with the costs associated with having to change tow vehicles if the first acquisition turns out to the the incorrect one for the application.

We tow our 2014 31' Classic (scales 9,200 pounds loaded for camping) with a 2012 Ram 2500HD Cummins. Our tongue weight is now down to 1,175 pounds from 1,375 when we had four 96 pound Lifeline 6Vdc 300 amp-hour batteries located behind the propane tank in a custom stainless steel enclosure. We cut off the factory receiver and installed a Curt 15049 rated 2m550 pounds of tongue weight and a 17,000 pound trailer.

We converted the Classic to Kodiak disc brakes so we have more than adequate stopping power in the mountains.

The engine braking of the Cummins is really appreciated on the steep down grades.

I own a 2017 Classic 30 and I've towed it with an F-150 (3.5l ecoboost) and with an F-250 diesel. On the flats, I felt fine towing with an F-150, but on the steep grades, there's no comparison with the F-250 diesel. Additional power and an exhaust brake make towing a Classic so much nicer and safer.

Though I have a slide out and not the Classic, the weights are pretty close. Initially, I used my older model 1500 gasser to tow but stayed mostly in the East on flat land satisfactorily. I upgraded to a 2500 diesel a few years later and learned immediately that I should have had the larger TV all along. Trips to elevation and tackling grades were the key and quite noticeable differences. An exhaust brake is a wonderful thing!
