need help planning a trip down the Oregon Coast for August

We're planning to go to Alumafandango this August and would like travel southward along the Oregon Coast to get home (central coast CA). We are trying to determine the best route to the coast (and don't mind going a bit North!), and then places to stop/camp along the way. Boondocking would be fine, but with breaks to 'clean it up'...any suggestions would be VERY welcomed! We'll be traveling in a 25' Eddie Bauer.

Oregon coast

Try Harris Beach State Park at Brookings or Humbug Mountain near Port Orford. We've been to both places in August and they are great campgrounds.

I honestly don't think there is a BAD campground on the coast. Beverly Beach SP north of Newport (7 miles) is Great, SouthBeach SP just south of Newport is also great, both have easy access to the beach. Ted

We vacationed (camped) on the Oregon coast for 30 years. The State Parks are great. I agree with Davenpow. There all Good! We moved to Lincoln City 2 years ago. We live 10 miles north of Beverly Beach SP. There is access under highway 101 to the beach (short walk). It is long and wide and beautiful.

If you want a front row view and access, to the ocean, there is a Good Sam park at mile post 23, 6 miles south of Lincoln City. It is a block from our house. Sea & Sand RV Park Details 100006737 Good Sam Club

If you are close by I would be happy to give you a tour of our 1958 Flying Cloud.
Have a great trip.

We like Sea and Sand Resort. Also might think about Cannon Beach RV resort. Looks like we are missing Alumafandango. We'll be in Yellowstone

If you want advice how to get to the coast, you'll have to tell us where you are starting from. The coast highway in Oregon starts at Astoria on the Columbia R. Near there is Lewis & Clark's fort (reconstructed) where they stayed for a while after reaching the ocean. Further south near Tillamook is an aircraft museum and the cheese factory has tours.

We like the Cannon Beach RV resort. My wife says the laundry facilities are very good.

Lincoln City has a Pendleton store with some discounted merchandise and RV parking at the south rear side of the mall. I recall turning into it next to a gas station next to the mall. Mall is on the east side of the highway.

Oregon is well known for really good state parks.

Bandon is a nice place to stop. We also liked the municipal campground in Newport. Newport claims art deco buildings, but there are very few.

In Oregon sometimes you are along the coast and other times inland. For a highway that pretty much follows the coast, you have to travel to Cal.

2ND and 3rd and an AMEN on the Brookings area. It is extraordinary! I wished I could live there during the summer.

Try Camp Cape Blanco and we will join you.

We love Cape Blanco SP. It is between Port Orford and Bandon (see last months Sunset magazine on best places to camp). We camp there a lot. Matter of fact if you elect to camp there let us know and we will try to come and join you. We likewise have a 2012 Eddie Bauer.

We, too, loved Cape Blanco. From our site, we could hear the ocean waves pounding the shore, and a short path through the woods led to a view of the sunset. There's also a nice beach where we could let our retriever run to her heart's content.
