Need camping info for VT mid Oct.
Ike and I have been invited to travel w/friends to Vermont for the color and sight seeing in mid-Oct. That is the earliest they are able to leave MI and there are concerns of missing the famous VT colors and finding nice centrally located camping that late in the season. One camping brochure has most closed by Oct 15. We've found a promising year round one - Lake Dunmore Kampersville, Salisbury, VT. I thought I take a chance and see if there are any "leaf peepers" familiar with New England in the fall.
Many thanks,
suz

Columbus Day weekend shoud be peak color in Northern VT. Peak color drops with the leaves throughout October. By the end of October, the only color left in Vt are the oak trees and all the snow birds heading south.
Good luck on finding a campground. We stayed at a very nice campground in Stowe. I would recommend it to anyone.

Columbus Day weekend is the time to be there ... after that one would have to move further South for peak color.

Think our timing will work??
Thank you both for your help. We won't be arriving until the 15th-16th. -- think it'll still work out?? We found horrible comments/reviews about the campground mentioned above and now have to search again for one open a bit later in Oct. Any ideas on campgrounds???

Sue and Ike,
Check out www.campgroundreviews.com. There are a couple nice parks in Ascutney and Quechee. These parks are closer to the New Hampshire side of Vermont and is very beautiful country. You will still have some beautiful color, although it will be past peak.
We have frequently passed through this area of Vermont. I have wanted to spend some time there. It is a very lovely vacation area. New Hampshire and Vermont are both very beautiful along the Ct. River.
I think you should have a very nice visit, However, be prepared for some cold weather.

The eastern edge of Vermont is indeed nice ... so id the area along the Battenkill River.
There is a differance between vermont and New Hampshire ... New Hampshire can get a little junky with signage and lack of zoneing (Live free or Die ... or Don't Live free or Die that's their moto.
Enjoy your trip .. Vermont is nice at all time of year ... it just depends on what your there for.

Hi Suz,
My Family and I just returned from Vermont a week ago. We stayed at several nice places you may be interested in. Dorset RV Park, Just North of Manchester, is very clean and nice. The surrounding area is great, with lots of shopping if your into that. On the other side of the Green Mnts. to the East is Pine Valley RV Resort in Quechee, also clean and nice. The town of Woodstock, just up Rte 4 is one of the nicest towns in Vermont. Billings Farm and the local ski mtn Suicide Six are just some of the property's in Woodstock owned by the Rockefeller Family. Both of these Parks say they will still be open. Way up North, there are some nice places on Lake Champlain, but the Colors may be gone by then. Best of Luck, Al

We are considering staying at Gold Brook Campground in Stowe VT and are wondering if this was the campground you stayed at?
Would like to hear from anyone else who has stayed at this campground.
