Need Campground recommendations

It appears all state park and national park campgrounds in Colorado are booked for late August. Our daughter wants to go camping with us somewhere cooler and less humid than Kansas. She has limited vacation days. Any suggestions for a nice campground near or in the mountains. Commercial campgrounds may be our only option.

There are a lot of first come, first served campgrounds in the National Forest.

The more remote they are, the less busy they are likely to be.

I like the AllStays App, but whichever one you like they will show on there, and you can plan accordingly.

Try Campesite Full? Its a site that checks constantly for cancellations or openings at many campgrounds. https://reserve.wanderinglabs.com/

I was able to get a place at Estes Park in late August, but they are filling up fast!

What area are you shooting for?
I always home based in Montrose, and stayed at Centennial Campground. Big pull throughs, nice folks, best of all, every direction was beautiful, yet different.

We had hoped to go to Rocky Mountain NP but it appeared there was a lottery system just to visit the Park. We ended up getting a reservation at Cheyenne Mountain State Park.

Campground recomendations

It probably won't help jayhawk but I just this morning reluctantly cancelled a 2 week stay at Rosy Lane campground #5. It is a large site right on the Taylor River and can fit a 22'.

You could always make a detour and visit Wyoming! Got some great places here!

We love Wyoming! We thought Yellowstone and the Tetons were too far. My daughter is going with us and she has limited vacation. We also thought both of those areas would be too crowded and difficult to find a campground although a commercial would have worked. I did check campgrounds in southern Wyoming but my memory is they were booked as well.

We ended up making reservations in late August/early September at a commercial campground in Custer, SD.

We used the recommended APP to make a reservation at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in late September. Our daughter will not be able to go with us at that time.

Other than Yellowstone and the Tetons, do you have any other specific recommendations?

Thanks!

What campground are you referring too?

I might give it a shot.

Thanks,

We enjoyed Guernsey State Park and Vedauwoo in Wyoming. Great gem's if you're in that area.

Yes, by all means please stay away from Yellowstone and the Tetons!

Go to the Big Horns, there are so many unique places from Buffalo via Hwy 16; Sheridan/Dayton via Hwy 14, and if you are into a thrilling ride then take the Hwy 14A Pucker-up drive....yes, it will make one pucker-up a bit as it is pretty extreme, yet beautiful!

I rode on a bicycle tour called the Tour of Wyoming and we went to Buffalo and Dayton and elsewhere. It was my all time favorite bike ride. We will check out going up there in October.
