Natchez Trace/Muscle Shoals/Natchez

We just completed the Trace and can't say enough good things about the experience. We drove it North to South, it was a very relaxing drive and maybe had 4 cars pass me the whole trip. We took about 5 days to do it with extra time spent in Florence/Muscle Shoals. We were lucky enough that Linda Hall surviving spouse of Recording legend Rick Hall of FAME recording studios did our tour. Side note Rick Hall buried the 2nd dog in the Coon Dog Cemetery, but it was bull dog. Florence is a neat town also, recommend eating at Odette's. Spent a day in Jackson Mississippi, Lefleur Bluff State Park is downtown and okay, a little run down but great location. Natchez was really neat, recommend the Under the Hill Saloon (Oldest Saloon east of the Mississippi). I'd liked to have had another day in Natchez, really a lot of history and a lot to see.

The Trace made me appreciate the sheer joy of traveling in my Airstream. I only wish there were more parkways like the Trace; I'm definitely spoiled now.

If i could figure out how to post pics this would have been a more interesting thread.

It is astonishing how much music came out of FAME over the years.

Equally, how The Swampers were the hidden band on all those cuts...

There is a documentary on Muscle Shoals that is quite interesting, if you are in to the popular music of the 60s to the 80s.

As they say, 'you can hear the river in the music'

Fame Recording Natchez Trace

Yes thought it would be easier to list who hadn't recorded there. The pictures and the history were amazing. The documentary is definitely a must see, prior to visiting the studio.
