Monterey, CA Trip w/ 6 year old Grandson

Hi All,
Well, first off, I know it's very late to be making travel plans. But, things being what they are, here Grandma and I are trying to plan a trip to take our six year old grandson up to visit the Monterey area, the Aquarium and hopefully a good look at some very big trees this summer. We live in San Diego, CA. so it will be an interesting drive up there for all of us.

Anyone out there have any RV Campground suggestions for that area? The grandson is a great kid and I'd sure like his first trip w/grandma and me in the TT to be a memorable one. We have a 28' Classic so will need a little longer site, hopefully pool for him to play in, full hook ups, etc.

Suggestions will be appreciated!!!!!!!!

Mike

Mike, your best bet are as follows;
Laguna Seca
Or
MArina Dunes RV PARK
I work for the city of Monterey, and we do have a neat RV campground that is hidden within the city, but your trailer is just a tad to long for it.
You can send me a PM message if want futher info on anthing more specific for this area.
Jeff

Well I wish you luck with this trip. My wife and I were thinking of doing the same thing. But we could not get any reservation. I did find some campgrounds inland a bit with no hookups. I would just look online for places and hope they have dates open for when you are going.

Good luck,

What a terrific trip to take with your grandson. However, this is a tough part of the world to come to without advance reservations.
A few parks just north of Monterey that I would recommend checking into:
Sunset Beach State Park
New Brighton Beach SP
Mount Madonna County Park (Santa Clara County)
Big Basin SP (big redwoods)
KOA in Watsonville--very close to Sunset Beach, not far from Monterey, and has lots of kid-friendly ambience as well as larger sites.
The MB Aquarium is about 30 min. from most of these, although Big Basin is about another 45 min.drive north into the mountains.
Have fun with your little one!

Thanks for the suggestions

Thanks for the ideas on where to stay in the Monterey, we really appreciate all of your suggestions. The little guy is really excited, so Grandpa better come up with something.

Hi, while in Monterey and at the Aquarium make sure you dine at "Bubba Gumps" it's just down the street. And you might take a scenic drive with the ocean on one side of the street and nice Victorian homes on the other side. Of course this is without the trailer attached.
