Mid-Kentucky Campground?

Next month we are traveling from East TN to Jackson Center, OH for service. We want to enjoy a rambling trip, so are looking for a campground near I-75 between Lexington, KY and Cincinnati. Any recommendations?

Kentucky Horse Park Campground

We made the trip to JC in March and stayed at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in Lexington KY. It's a nice park and not far from the interstate. Check out their website:

The Horse Park is beautiful but you have to make reservations early, Renfo Valley is nice but South of Lexington. If you want to get off the beatin path Bardstown, Harrodsburg area is nice (Taylorsville Lake Campground) where you will find the KY Bourbon Trail. Boonesborough is just south of Lexington where you will find a fine campground and get a tour of the old fort. If you like Appalachian folk art Berea is nice (KOA campground). Enjoy the Bluegrass State!!

My pick would be either the Ky Horse Park (home of the 2010 WORLD Equastrian games) or Fort Boonesborough

Well, I've contacted all the state parks in the area, including Kentucky Horse Park, and have also contacted the KOA. They all require a 2 night minimum stay on a weekend in the summer. I only have 1 night going up and 1 night coming back. I'll guess we'll just have to get up at the crack of dawn and drive straight through to JC. Thanks, anyway, for the suggestions!

We have stayed at the Corbin, KY KOA a couple of years ago and it was nice. We stayed Saturday night only. They have a nice pool and outdoor movies and are about a mile or so off I-75 and the Wal-Mart is on the opposite side of the interstate. It is a little south of Lexington though, but a doable drive from JC. It is also near the Mammoth Caves if you have any time for site seeing.

Has anyone stayed at Twin Knobs Campground (on Cave Run Lake) - inside Daniel Boone National Forest?
