Well, strapped the Airstream into the Blue Ox weight distribution hitch with the 500lb bars and decided to give it a go. This was my first time towing anything and having 14,000 total had me a little nervous.
So I gave traffic in the morning a lot of room and went 55 the whole way home. Didn’t quiet know how to set up the trailer brake so I deleted it at 3.5 which seemed ok and not grabby.
Took it to Lake Almanor and had a good one day there. Aside from the pine “worms” dropping like crazy it was for the most part mosquito free. Ants had a field day with all the mini larva worms. Gold mine to them.
Anyway took her back home and was again nervous about backing the trailer up never having done it but slow was about the right speed and did manage within 6” to back it up to where it originally was. Not bad it only took 15 minutes
My take on my 2012 Ford 6.2 gasser is if it’s not pushed and your not in a hurry it does GREAT. I was able to easily maintain 55 and when it dropped to 3rd going up some of the steepest hills I was able to maintain 45 mph. Now when I got excited ion the gas peddle it did drop to 2nd gear and that was a horrible sound going 45-50. Let off the gas it drops back to a more reasonable 45 in 3rd and all was well. So I got to learn about the truck and it easily handled the trailer. My wife even got to drive it and was impressed at how it felt and handled taking it all the way for her first time into town.
There will never be another first time and this was a great experience learning about the behind the big Ford and trailer combo.
Next up Loon Lake in Ice House California. Looks like a nice place.
Thanks for the read.
