Maiden Voyage

Well, strapped the Airstream into the Blue Ox weight distribution hitch with the 500lb bars and decided to give it a go. This was my first time towing anything and having 14,000 total had me a little nervous.
So I gave traffic in the morning a lot of room and went 55 the whole way home. Didn’t quiet know how to set up the trailer brake so I deleted it at 3.5 which seemed ok and not grabby.
Took it to Lake Almanor and had a good one day there. Aside from the pine “worms” dropping like crazy it was for the most part mosquito free. Ants had a field day with all the mini larva worms. Gold mine to them.
Anyway took her back home and was again nervous about backing the trailer up never having done it but slow was about the right speed and did manage within 6” to back it up to where it originally was. Not bad it only took 15 minutes
My take on my 2012 Ford 6.2 gasser is if it’s not pushed and your not in a hurry it does GREAT. I was able to easily maintain 55 and when it dropped to 3rd going up some of the steepest hills I was able to maintain 45 mph. Now when I got excited ion the gas peddle it did drop to 2nd gear and that was a horrible sound going 45-50. Let off the gas it drops back to a more reasonable 45 in 3rd and all was well. So I got to learn about the truck and it easily handled the trailer. My wife even got to drive it and was impressed at how it felt and handled taking it all the way for her first time into town.
There will never be another first time and this was a great experience learning about the behind the big Ford and trailer combo.
Next up Loon Lake in Ice House California. Looks like a nice place.
Thanks for the read.

Awesome!

I'm where you were a few days ago...pick up my AS tomorrow and never towed anything more than a simple open trailer.

I've watched too many videos and read as much as possible. I'm ready! (to go slow)

Congrats on your new AS. What model are you getting? Show some pics.

And welcome to the forum!

Best regards!

We got home yesterday after a week in our 68 in the mountains of N. Georgia. Nothing better than time in the Airstream, glad you had a good trip.
One tip to make camping much more pleasurable-- Duplicate all the little kitchen items that you use regularly in the house in the trailer. Same for a couple of your favorite pots and pans. Don't get cheap, get what you use at home because it will make camping a lot more fun.

Done. I also added a few more things to the camping experience. Went to a estate sale and could NOT turn down the following.
6 person two room tent
3 500lb aluminum canvas sleeping cots
Small accordion aluminum table
A two person pop up tent. Shake it and it opens. Fancy shmancy
Coleman lantern with case
Couple large tarps
Everything is almost new.
$100.
My jaw dropped when he gave me the price. I was eternally grateful, and now to make some awesome memories with the grandkids. In a perfect world we could afford a 30’ Airstream and have room for the entire family. This will have to do.
Happy camper today.

@Hans627 - don't want to hijack Brandon's post so might start a new one. In the meantime, picked up a Globetrotter 23FB Queen. First drive was about 130 miles over a small 3K ft pass (no graded uphills or downhills). Nothing more than newbie jitters to report.
