Day 10 - May 23, 2007
We were back in Grand Teton National Park today. Since it is our last day here, we figured that we should do something really "outdoorsy" even though we are not very "outdoorsy" people. We went out to Jenny Lake, and took the shuttle boat over to the west side of the lake. We knew that we would miss the last boat back if we hiked to both Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. We decided to do it anyway even though it would require a 3 mile hike around the lake back to where Olivia was parked.
The boat ride across pristine Jenny Lake was really as the background scenery was Grand Teton. After getting off the boat, we hiked up to Hidden Falls (about 1/2 mile). The falls were absolutely beautiful. From there we hike up to Inspiration Point (about 1/2 mile almost straight up). We actually made it to the top (7200') and the view was fantastic. The 3 mile hike back to the car was very nice as we could see the lake from the trail most of the time. To our suprise, we made it back to Olivia without having to call in life flight. We are feeling it tonight back in Lucy. We hope that we will be up to breaking camp tomorrow morning.
Here are a few pictures of today's activities.

Wow, that brings back so many memories. We did the hike to the falls and back last year, did not go to the point.
What a beautiful area, your photos are great, and make me want to return.

Your travelogue is wonderful and the photos beautiful! Accomplishing that hike must have been exhilarating. Hope you recover from all that exertion and beauty and find a moose or two tomorrow. We saw quite a few in Yellowstone in the early fall a few years ago, one sadly being attacked by wolves. Also saw many buffalo and a few grizzlies, and many elk. What a place. Your trip is making us want to plan a return.
Love the waterfall behind SueEllyn.
This "lap through America" is going to bring you many treasured memories that will gain dimension with time. What a great thing to do.
Best wishes to you--and Lucy--on the road!

Your pictures are so great, I was thinking that one thing that might be a great thing for the Can Opener this year: if Rob is going to be their with his projector, is for everybody to make a CD of their travel photos for '07 and during the pot luck have everybody's travel photos projected in the background. If we can't get the pavilion or community building or whatever, I'd be willing to chip in on the site next to Rob's camp site and use it for the pot luck like we used the unused site last time and follow with the movie on that site. Just an idea.

Day 11 - Morning - May 24, 2007
I'm making an AM post for a couple or reasons. I don't know whether there will be a cell phone signal at Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone, so I may be off the Forums for several days. Also, I downloaded some photos from the other camera, and a few of these are worth seeing. The snow flurries were from Tuesday morning. This is the first time that Lucy has ever seen snow. The mule deer was very cooperative and posed for this photo. Here's another shot of Hidden Falls showing all the way to the top. The marmot was along the trail near the peak of Inspiration Point. This is a good shot of the very dirty Olivia showing off her Quadrasteer. The old trailer was resting along the road to Teton Village. This poor old guy looks like he is from the 40's. Time to start breaking camp in Jackson; it is 24 degrees here this morning.

That's a good idea. If we go back to Tops'l for the Can Opener next year, they will allow us free us of the party building with the number of campers that we bring into the park. We actually had access to it last time, but didn't use it.

Can Opener is set for 1/4-1/6/08 at Topsail Hill. Several of us have already made our reservations. We got the same site as this year.
My understanding was that we could have used the community room, but we didn't reserve it in advance and there was a $75 fee or cleaning deposit or something involving $75 that wasn't paid and that was why we used the site that one of the group had paid for but couldn't come at the last minute.

Day 11 - Evening - May 24, 2007
Lucy got a well-deserved bath before we left Jackson this morning. We got into Yellowstone around 3:00 PM and made camp at Fishing Bridge RV Park.
There is no cell signal there. I am posting this from down the road from the campground. We hit some snow after getting into the park.

Look how cool your lovely Lucy looks against the trees...as opposed to those white boxes next to her.

Wow. It looks like fun. Do you have any pics of the inside of the trailer or the campground areas? How do you like living in Lucy? Is it nice and cozy? Plenty of space for you? What's it like waking up in new campgrounds? Does it fell odd? Can you hear the birds singing in the morning?

I agree with janetb, the organic curves of the Airstream plus the reflectivity of even the newer Airstreams harmonize with the natural scenery rather than juxtapose with it. In other words, an Airstream blends in with nature, not slam up against it with hard angles.

Your photos took us back in time to our ferry across Jenny Lake and climb to the falls. Did you visit Jenny Lake Lodge or have dinner there? We stayed there overnight and it was delightful. Now, well. . .I'd pick our Gypsy over almost any lodge anywhere! Thanks for the memories and continue to enjoy your time on the road. By the way, talk of Can Opener II is exciting to hear ~G

Day 12 - May 25, 2007
Our first full day in Yellowstone was great We did the Canyon Area today. We started at the Mud Volcano where SuEllyn posed for a picture with her new best friend. We saw the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and caught s photo of a rainbow on the Yellowstone River. The Upper falls were fantastic. The stuffed Moose in the gift shop may be the only one that we see, so I got a photo of him.
We decided that we didn't really like the Fishing Bridge RV Campground in the Park. We're going to break camp in the morning and go to the KOA at the West Enerance to Yellowstone. I'll provide more details tomorrow and let you know about the KOA.
Here's some pictures from today.

Lucy works out perfectly for us. We are very comfortable and cozy in her. We don't feel like we are waking up in a new campground; we feel like we are waking up inour Lucy which is like being home except in another location. That's the great thing about Airstreaming. We have spent over 100 nights in Lucy in the past 12 months, and have not tired of her. Every time we go home, we can't wait to take her out again. We don't usually hear the birds in the morning because Airstreams are amazingly quiet inside unless you some windows open. I'll take some photos of the inside of Lucy over the next few days and post them.
