Day 38 - June 20, 2007

Enid, Oklahoma. The storm is over, and the sun has peeked out. It thundered and lightninged most of the night. We haven't been over to Lucy yet. Steve's street looks pretty good, so we're hoping for the best. The storms here in the center of Tornado Alley are quite a show.

More than show, they are dangerous. Several people drowned, earlier in the week, because of flash floods. This was along the I35 corridor just south of the OK/TX border. In fact, sections of the interstate were closed because of flooding. You may want to check the road conditions with the OK DOT before you leave.

I have really been enjoying your travel log. You've had a great trip with a minimum of troubles.

you shoulda been here

If you think the storms were interesting up there...you should have been sitting in the storm shelter with us between 3:00 and 5:00 AM. We were dead center...15 miles south of Gainsville, TX. 10 1/2 inches of rain and constant tornado alerts. I guess the drouth is over. Wish I was on the road with you.

Day 38 - June 20, 2007

We toured Enid with Steve today. We hung out at Steve's house for a while and did some laundry.

We're back in Lucy tonight.

In the morning, we will be heading out in a southeasterly direction.

Day 39 - June 21, 2007

We departed Enid this morning and headed south on US 81 through Kingfisher to I-40. We headed east on I-40 through Oklahoma City, and on into Arkansas. We stoppped for the night at Ivy's Cove RV Retreat in Russellville, Arkansas. It is right off I-40 (half mile) at exit 84. Easy in and out with 5 point hook-ups for $22.00. A great place for one night while passing through.

we will be here until sunday. This has been the best strech of cool evenings I have ever seen in June during our yearly treks. 30 minutes and we will hop on the scooters and ride to the Observation tower for sunset. Ahh!I'll post to a applicable thread when I get wifi. This PDA is not up to the task.

These facilities were located at a rest stop along I-40 in Oklahoma. This was the first time that I have seen such facilities.

We are in a campground in Clinton, Mississippi, tonight. I think that we are only about 20 miles from Brandon. It's hot here tonight. We plan on getting home to Santa Rosa Beach tomorrow night.

Was that the airport at Enid? Appears to be closed. Flew a 172 in there in 1971 on a long cross country, Orange County Ca. to Buffalo NY. I found the tire thread for you also. Thanks for all your great pics. DG

Day 40 - June 22, 2007

We broke camp this morning at Ivy's Cove RV Retreat in Russellville, Arkansas, this morning. We headed east on I-40 to Little Rock, where we headed south on US 65 into Louisiana. We continued south through the countryside until we hit I-20. We headed east on 20 into Mississippi.

We made camp for the night at the Springridge RV Park in Clinton, Mississippi. This was the same campground that we stopped at on our first night from home on this trip.

Next stop - home.

Day 41 - June 23, 2007

We broke camp at Clinton, Mississippi this morning and headed home. We arrived at Santa Rosa Beach at about 6:00 PM. We got Lucy parked in the driveway. We rushed around and got Lucy set-up and headed for the sunset down on the beach (50 yards away).

We did 8,460 miles and made it back in one piece. The breeze on the ocean is great. Will post more tomorrow.

Welcome home from some visitors to the area. We ordered a welcome back sunset but the overcast rolled in this afternoon. I suspect there are several hundred of us Air Folks that will have to look for another (abet lesser) form of virtual escape every morning now that your Excepionally captivating travel log has run its course. who will step up and fill our coffee void?
