Enjoying your post.

We sold the Outfitter Truck Camper two years ago. We had it for six years. We used it a bunch for the first two or three years. We would leave Lucy in a campground and head out into the back country for a couple of days in the truck camper. We enjoyed the experience but found that we were using it less and less as time went on. The Outfitter weighed 3,000# which required a one ton long bed pick-up to handle the truck camper and Lucy's 900# tongue weight. As our whole rig weighed about 18,000#, we were well past the capabilities of any gasoline engine, so a Diesel truck was required.
The Airstream pulled very well with the truck camper. One of the main issues that you have to consider if you want to tow your Airstream with a truck camper is that you really need a long bed (8') truck to do this. Most truck camper rigs that you see are set up on a 6.5' bed truck with a significant overhang of the camper unit. If you tow with a rig like this, you have to use an 18" extended hitch bar. This would not work with heavy trailer with a significant tongue weight.
Good luck in your quest.
Brian

Lucy is still camped at the KOA in Billings, Montana. We spent the morning installing two new 12 volt* batteries in Lucy. These are the batteries that we purchased at Costco yesterday. The installation took about an hour as the old batteries had to be disconnected, and the new batteries had to be installed and wired into Lucy's 12 volt electrical system.
We then returned to Costco with the old batteries. They had to be brought back to Costco so that we could get a refund of the core charge.
We returned to Lucy and just hung out at the campground for the afternoon.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Lucy's old batteries before the surgery.
- Loading Lucy old batteries into Lillian.
- Lucy's new batteries all wired in.
- Yellowstone River next to the KOA.
- RV with a back porch.
- Unusual black travel trailer.

Our topper is a Swiss Cap. They are made by a small company in Patriot, Indiana. It is an all aluminum topper. They will custom configure the cap to your specicications. We are very satisfied with it. I love having the tool box and tool tray on the left side of the truck. This is the second Swiss Cap that we have had.

We're still here in Billings living the good life. We made it out today for a trip to the Post Office and a tour of some of the sights of Billings. We roamed the back streets and alleys and came up with some interesting old buildings and signs.
As some rain clouds were coming in, we made our way to Popeyes for some, you guessed it, chicken. We got it to go, and brought it back to Lucy, where we dined large in front of the television as the rain came down.
Tonight's pictures include:
- The 1901 Parmly Billings Library.
- The fading sign of the long gone Roxy Hotel.
- The 1910 Hotel Carlin in Downtown Billings.
- The 1900 Eagle Hotel.
- The original stained glad marquee of the Eagle Hotel is still mostly intact.
- The back of the 1906 Yellowstone Garage.
- The 1903 Moss Mansion.
- A beautiful turreted Victorian near the Moss Mansion.
- Another nicely preserved brick mansion.
- The Art Deco Parkway Motel sign in billings.

That way they can camp and go outside without ever actually touching the ground.

Hope you get on your way soon...winter's coming! LoL Which way you heading out of Billings toward Canada next on your trip? Helena is about 4 hours from Billings but you can get on Highway 15 from there up thru Great Falls to Calgary....or you can go up thru Lincoln on Highway 200 and go up thru Salmon Lake, Sealy Lake, Swan Lake, and a couple more up thru West Glacier...if I can help you let me know.

Today we made some progress toward getting Lucy Back on the road. We removed Lucy's broken Hensley hitch and got her ready for the new hitch which is still due to arrive here tomorrow. Our friend, Larry, is going to come back up from Cody to give us a hand with the new hitch installation.
This afternoon we hit Wal-Mart and Target for a few things we needed. We also took a short ride around town and were able to get a few pictures.
We came back to Lucy for dinner and have settled in for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Broken Hensley.
- Ready to be removed.
- Old Hensley on the picnic table bench.
- Cute little Vistabule tear drop camper trailer.
- Conoco Refinery in Billings.
- Hooligans Casino in Downtown Billings.
- Beautiful Blue Butterfly Delphiniums in a Billing front yard.
- The 1906 McKinley School in Billings.
- The 1895 L&L Building in downtown Billings which was once a brothel.

Looks like you'll be on the road soon. I had no success getting a hitch head overnighted to me on the road, but I tried. The equalizer hitch head weighed around 45 lbs. I guess—I know it got heavier every year. I can think of a lot worse places be stuck than Billings and you look to be making the best of it.
I expect Great Falls will be next and then Lethbridge. Have I mentioned the dinosaur museum in Alberta?—the Royal Tyrell in Drumheller, 100 or so miles east of the highway between Lethbridge and Calgary. Calgary is a nice city but very busy and you could easily spend time there too. If you stop at enough places, you'll never get to Alaska. With all there is to see along the way plus when you get to the north country, that's why we went three times.

Hi Gene,
We sure hope so. The Hensley replacement is due here today. We are all ready for it. We have already remove the broken unit. We will probably go to Great Falls next. That's where we were headed when the hitch failed. Great Falls is the last US Wal-Mart before we criss the border. We do plan to stop at Banff and Lake Louise on the way up, but we are also anxious to get to Alaska.

Don't forget Brain that Canada might have a Walmart or two ourselves. I'm sure you will have lots of opportunity to shop. I can think of at least 4 before you hit Dawson Creek (who also has one). The other good thing is their prices are in CDN $ and that is very much to your advantage .
Enjoy the ride.....
Cheers

Great Falls has both Sams and Walmart...Washington State Red Cherry's are coming into season and were $1.49/lb at SuperOne grocery today...very sweet/tasty indeed if you have a chance to stop.

Well, Lucy's New hitch arrived today around Noon. It took us about three hours to complete the installation. It involved setting it on Lillian's hitch bar and then hooking Lucy's hitch on the Hensley hitch ball. Then there was a lot of connecting and lubricating of the new unit.
We completed the installation in time to take the old hitch to the UPS depot here in Billings, and got it on its way back to Hensley in Michigan. The outgoing package weighed-in at*99 pounds.
With the hitch debacle completed, We decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the Club (Sam's Club). We also scored some more of the peanut butter M&Ms while we were there. We filled Lillian with Diesel fuel and headed back to the KOA to settle in for the night.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Lucy's old and new hitch.
- New hitch set up on Lillian.
- Test hook-up to get Hensley situated.
- Hensley fully installed and ready to go.
- The girls getting ready at the campsite.

Yes, we are aware of that. We plan to hit most, if not all, of the Wal-Marts along our route in Canada.
