Glad to see you guys back in WY! We had to cancel our trip this year. A few days after we ran into you guys near Sibley Lake in 2019, we went to the Mint Bar and parked across the street. we were on our way in to check it out when a fight just outside the door erupted. We decided to pass. Lol. Had much better luck at the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo that had decent food, live music and even met Craig Johnson! Travel safe!

.

That's too bad about your Wyoming plans. Hopefully, you will be able to put your trip back together at some point. We have been in the Mint a couple of times over the years without any issues.

Cody, Wyoming

Lucy is still camped at Larry and Mary Anne's Ranch outside of Cody, Wyoming. We spent the day just hanging out and visiting.

Larry grilled some hamburgers for dinner. This mixed with some beers made it a great day.

- Downtown Cody, Wyoming.
- One of the numerous drinking establishments in Downtown Cody.

Rock Springs, Wyoming

Lucy broke camp this morning at the Ranch. We headed into Cody and met up with our friend, Larry, for breakfast. After breakfast, we headed south out of Cody into the Wyoming Countryside. We had a nice day of driving and went through a number of Wyoming small towns. When the day was done, we found ourselves in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We had covered 300 miles, and were ready to quit for the day.

We got Lucy a nice campsite at the Sweetwater County Fairgrounds in Rock Springs. We got Lucy tucked in and settled in for the night.

Brian

Tonight's pictures include:

- SuEllyn trying out Larry's tractor.
- The 1893 Cowboy Bar Meeteetse, Wyoming.
- A California Airstream that we passed on Wyoming 120.
- Coming into Thermopolis, Wyoming.
- Scenery going through Wind River Canyon.
- More of the beautiful ride through Wind River Canyon.
- Tunnels on the Canyon Road.
- A very nice old Sinclair Oil sign in Riverton, Wyoming.
- Main Street, Lander, Wyoming.
- The 1924 Grand Theatre in Lander, Wyoming.

Elko, Nevada

Lucy and Vivian were on the road early this morning making their way westbound. We traveled on I-80 from Rock Springs through the rest of Wyoming and into Utah. We spent much of the day making our way through Utah. This afternoon we crossed over into Nevada which gained us an hour of travel time as we moved into the Pacific Time Zone.

We continued along I-80 for another hundred miles into Nevada and stopped for the night at Elko where we got Lucy* a nice campsite at the Elko RV Park. We got Lucy all hooked up and settled in for the night.

Brian

Tonight's pictures include:

- The Girls are all set to head out from the Fairgrounds in Rock Springs this morning.
- Nice vintage travel trailer we spotted in Green River, Wyoming.
- Chimney Rock in Green River.
- An Airstream from Georgia that we passed on I-80.
- Rock formations along I-80.
- Making our way through Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The Great Salt Lake.
- The Morton Salt Plant on the Great Salt Lake.
- The 1980 Sculpture, The Tree of Utah.
- SuEllyn standing on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

LOL! I was hoping we were going to get the answer to the question "How fast can you tow an Airstream?"

I like Utah. It is one of my favorite States. The small towns there are clean and nicely kept by my observations. We stayed in Richfield, Utah, last May. We ate dinner here, a place that has been there for decades.

I've attended a Bonneville event. It was quite a sight. Streamliners screaming at 400 mph. Vivian would like a try at a new speed record for red pickups. Sign her up.

Reno, Nevada

Lucy Packed out of Elko, Nevada this morning and headed west on I-80. We made a quick stop at the WalMart in Elko before continuing into the hinterland of rural Nevada. Our pictures today are a little lacking as there is not very much between Elko and Reno.

We arrived in the Reno, Nevada area around rush hour. The traffic was very heavy. We continued out of Reno on I-580 down to Carson City. We continued down to Minden, where we got Lucy a very nice campsite at Silver City RV Resort. We got* Lucy all hooked up and had a little dinner. We then headed over to our friends, Ron and Jane's, house for a nice visit which included the consumption of several beers. We made it back to Lucy in time to complete the email.

Brian

Tonight's pictures include:

- One of the tunnels through the mountains along I-80.
- I-80 was almost all big trucks.
- The Sherwin-Williams Paint Manufacturing Plant near Reno, Nevada.
- As we came into the Reno area, Vivian's GPS greeted us with a picture of mayhem.
- Passing through Downtown Reno, Nevada
- Lucy has not seen traffic like this in some time.
- This is a herd of wild horses that feed along the highway into Carson City.
- The mountain view is hazy from the area forest fires.
- Western artwork displayed on the overpasses in Reno.
- A very nice Bald Eagle sculpture greets visitors to Carson City, Nevada.

Thank you for the tip, David. If we get through Richland, we will look this place up. After our visit here in Carson City, we plan to start heading back east. We would like to avoid the I-10 route, not to get caught up in any storm recovery efforts. We are looking at all possible routes back to Santa Rosa Beach.

If anyone has any good alternative routes, please let us know.

Thanks, Brian

Since your starting point is Carson City you might consider heading east across Nevada on Hwy 50, known as the loneliest road in America. It goes through the heart of the Basin and Range area, and fascinated me when I drove it years ago. From Utah you can find a way down to the historic Route 66 for another non-freeway drive that can get you all the way to Missouri.

We drove highway 50 westbound across Nevada from I-70 near Richfield to Carson City last May. It is certainly desolate and devoid of fuel stops. We camped one night in Austin, Nevada, and decided the town was a "living ghost town". It was one of the worse campground we've ever been in. Utah was more scenic than Nevada in our view.

The towns you visit certainly look more welcoming.

Slipped into California

Lucy is still camped in Carson City. We had a slow morning. Our friend Ron came over to Lucy and visited or a while. After Lunch, Ron and Jane came by Lucy and got us. We went for a short tour of the Carson Valley including a short jaunt over into California.

We came back through Genoa, the oldest settlement in Nevada. Of course, we had to stop for a beer at the oldest bar in Nevada. Ron dropped us back by Lucy where we relaxed for a while before heading back to Ron and Jane's for a home cooked BBQ rib dinner.

We came back to Lucy to settle in for the night.

Brian

- A burned section of forest from one of the recent fires.
- Topaz Lake, Nevada.
- A section of California 89 near the Nevada line.
- More of the views from California 89.
- More burned forest on the California side.
- Looking down into the valley as we went up the mountain.
- Top of the mountain at Monitor Pass.
- Markleeville, California. One of the towns almost lost in the recent fires.
- Genoa is the oldest settlement in Nevada
- The oldest bar in Nevada.

I agree with your opinion that Utah is more scenic than Nevada, and will add that in my opinion so are Arizona and New Mexico. However, Moosetags is in eastern Nevada and will have to drive 3-400 miles across Nevada to get to any of those states. The decision is how.

Desolate is a good description of central Nevada, but in its own way it has beauty. And while the towns do not have classic American charm, they are a genuine slice of America — which seems to me to be what the Moosetags excursions are about.

What you say is true. Generally speaking, the far western towns don't have the charm of the small towns further east. They have their own persona though and we enjoy seeing them.

Lucy's mission is the exploration of the nooks and crannies of America. We have tentatively decided to start out on US 50 from Carson City.

US 50 is called the "loneliest road in America". That's kind of right up our alley. We can follow 50 all the way to Illinois or Indiana before dropping off to head south as we are heading back to Central Time Zone Florida.

We'll just have to see how it goes and see what's out there.

Brian

I am fond of this road. Spent a night at the hotel in Eureka and a few days in Fallon. For me being a rural person I found no problem with any of it. Much better than the interstate. It may be to calm for some city folk but you should fair ok. Who knows it may be the best part of your trip. Then again maybe not!

Carson City, Nevada

Very short email tonight. We are still camped in Carson City. We went out today and shopped in Costco, Trader Joe's, and WalMart.

We came back to Lucy and relaxed which probably included a short nap. We went back over to Ron and Jane's and went out for a very nice dinner at one of the local casino restaurants. We had a very good meal and a very nice visit.

We went back by Ron and Jane's house for a short visit and to say our farewells. We went back to Lucy and settled in for the night.

Brian

Tonight's pictures include:

- A Tiny House was a visitor at our campground.
- A nice shot of the Girls at their campsite.
- Lucy at her campsite.

Highway 50 is a historic highway, one of the first trans continental roads in America. Highway 50 is scenic in Colorado with several interesting small mountain towns along the route. I bet Lucy will like it.
