Lucy Has Escaped
Greetings Everyone,
Once again, Lucy is heading out on an epic journey to seek out the nooks and crannies of this great country. This time we are heading up into the relatively nearby mountains of North Carolina. We are seeking some cooler weather.
We headed out a little earlier than our usual crack of noon. We stuck with the back roads. When we crossed into Alabama, there was not even a sign saying that we crossed out of Florida and into Alabama.
We continued north to Eufaula, Alabama where we stopped for the night at Lakepoint State Park. We got Lucy a nice campsite right on Lake Eufaula. We arrived at the campground around four o'clock. We unhooked Vivian from Lucy and took a short tour of Eufaula.
Eufaula was founded in 1834 and has many historic structures. After looking around and getting some pictures, we returned home to Lucy and settled in for the night.
Brian
Tonight's pictures include:
- Vivian and Lucy are ready to depart from Santa Rosa Beach.
- The old Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, which has now been repurposed into a lawn mower shop.
- The old abandoned downtown Ponce de Leon, Florida.
- Downtown Bonifay, Florida.
- One of the significant mansions on Broad Street in Eufaula- - Another beautiful home in Eufaula.
- The 1927 Martin Theatre in Downtown Eufaula, Alabama.
- The 1903 Reeves Peanut Company Building on Main Street in Eufaula.
- A restored old filling station building in Downtown Eufaula.
- The girls in their lakefront campsite.

Hi Bob. Thanks. That's Norman T. Bird in the garage. He gets really jealous every time the girls head out. He is the daily driver when we are at home.

Following.
It amazes me how every small town seems to offer something of interest if we take the time to look. I especially appreciate how that is emphasized in your travels via the pictures you post. Thank you Brain!

Yay, another vicarious trip as the last one got cut short because our (I mean your) air conditioning went out[emoji9]. Enjoy your trip. Family recently moved from CA to NC and live outside Morganton on the lake while their daughter goes to App State. They love NC, decent weather, fruit farms, flowers and lots of hiking and greenery.

Looking forward, as usual, to following your in your travels. Where are you headed in NC? We are currently in Fleetwood, between Boone and West Jefferson. Maybe we could meet for a meal somewhere.

Thanks for sharing the great photos. We also enjoy exploring older small downtown areas - we'll have to put that on our list.

Adairsville, Georgia
Lucy broke camp this morning in Eufaula, Alabama, and continued into Georgia and the Eastern Time Zone. We continue to travel on the back roads to partake of the small towns along the way. This form of road travel is slower, but much more rewarding.
We covered a little over 200 miles today and are overnighting in Adairsville, Georgia. We got Lucy a very comfortable campsite at the Leisure Time RV Park. We unhooked and took a short tour of Adairsville. We stopped and got a pizza from Melania's New York Pizza and took it back to Lucy where we dined in grand style on excellent pizza.
Brian
Tonight's pictures include:
- Lucy's lake view campsite on Lake Eufaula.
- A cotton field ready for picking along US 421 in Alabama.
- An old country store along State Road 61 in Georgia.
- A 1970's vintage Airstream along the road in LaGrange, Georgia.
- A restored 1932 Gulf Station in Franklin, Georgia.
-Vivian and Lucy taking a breather on the town square in Franklin, Georgia.
- The 1948 Dallas Theatre in Dallas, Georgia.
- An unusual spot for a stop light along Georgia 61. Actually, it is well placed to caution drivers of a stop light over a steep hill.
- The girls have just arrived at their campsite in Adairsville.
- A very sad old residence in Downtown Adairsville.

You know us. We really don't have any idea where we are heading. We only know when we get there. Just follow out trip progress and let us know if we get close.

Lucy broke camp and hit the road in Adairsville, Georgia. We continued on the back roads and crossed into North Carolina. The going was a bit slow as some of the back road became very narrow and twisty.
We finally made our way into Hendersonville, North Carolina at about 5:00 PM. We got got Lucy a nice campsite at Lazy Boy RV park and got everyone settled in for the night. We dined at Lucy on the left over pizza from last night.
We are planning on spending two nights here in Hendersonville.
Brian
Tonight's pictures include:
- An old barn with roof advertising for Rock City along a back road in Georgia.
- A bucket truck with its boom extended to maximum height.
- We could tell that we were getting into the mountains.
- More mountain scenery.
- A few of the trees are starting to change color.
- Small marina on a mountain lake.
- Lawn sculpture at Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina.

Lucy is still camped in Hendersonville, North Carolina. We got up late and just hung around until lunch time. After Lunch, we headed out to do some errands. We went to Sam's Club, Walmart, and O'Reilly's Auto Parts.
We toured Downtown Hendersonville, and took a ride out to Jump Off Rock to see the surrounding mountains from this local high point.
On the way back to Lucy, we stopped and got chicken at Bojangles and brought it back to Lucy. The Bojangles wing dinner was excellent. It is a close second behind Popeye's.

Tonight's pictures include:
- Main Street, Hendersonville.
- A local street musician in Henderson.
- The 1904 Henderson County Courthouse.
- A redone vintage Coke wall sign in Downtown Hendersonville.
- A decorated bear in Downtown Hendersonville. These are sponsored by local businesses.
- Another one of the very colorful bears.
- Some of the flower plantings along Main Street, Hendersonville.
- One of the views from Jump Off Rock.
- Another spectacular view from Jump Off Rock.

I have never followed you before.
You are working through my former neck of the woods. If you have not been before, I highly recommend Berry College. Look it up- beautiful!
I always loved north Georgia and into North Carolina.
I have See Rock City bird house in my backyard and went to Berry.

We bypassed Rome on this trip as we have been there a number of times throughout the years. We have attended several of the Berry College antique car shows in the past. This will be one of our shorter Airstream trips. We paln to be out only several weeks. Most of our past Airstream Adventures last at least sixty days.

Lucy is still camped in Hendersonville. We drove over to Asheville today and toured around for a while. Asheville is the largest city in the area with a population of around 100,000. We toured the downtown area and several of the older neighborhoods.
We had a pleasant day touring Asheville. The temperatures here today were in the low 70's. We returned to Lucy late this afternoon and settled in for the night.

Lucy remains camped in Hendersonville. We took a ride today up to Bat Cave. From there we took the scenic mountain road, State Road 9, to Black Mountain. We toured Black Mountain and had lunch there. We also stopped and did some furniture shopping at Tyson Furniture, a very large furniture store in Black Mountain. We spent a couple of hours furniture shopping.
We made our way back to Lucy, then spent some time preparing Lucy for departure from Hendersonville tomorrow. We had some dinner in Lucy and settled in for the night.
Brian
Tonight's pictures include:
