Lucy is still camped in Rochester, Massachusetts. We took off this morning to tour Providence, Rhode Island. Before we headed out this morning, I did a little research on Rhode Island. The area of Rhode Island is 1,212 square miles. I knew Rhode Island was the smallest State, but I didn't realize that it is smaller that Walton County, Florida, where we live. Walton County is 1,238 square miles.
We drove the 40 or so miles over to Providence. We toured the downtown area and took in some of the sights. It is a nice clean city, but the traffic is heavy, and the streets are narrow.
We made our was back to the campground, and had supper at Lucy.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Cranberry bog near Lucy's Campground.
- Coming into Providence, Rhode Island.
- Downtown Providence, Rhode Island.
- The Providence Theatre.
- Downtown Providence, Rhode Island.
- Rhode Island Capitol Building.
- An old factory smoke stack has found a new life as a cell tower.

There are not very many of these. We came across this one by accident about ten years ago. This one is the Petro Truck Plaza at exit 178A on I-81 near Scranton, Pennsylvania. We have overnighted here at least a half dozen times.

OK, I just have to post this. Try a lobsta roll at Reds Eats at the bridge in Wiscasset. Many consider it the best in Maine. Here is a picture of Lou with one. By the way it was a cold day, and Reds doesn't have dine in facilities. You stand on the sidewalk to get your order.

Lucy is still camped in Rochester, Massachusetts. We headed out this morning to tour Cape Code. We visited several of the beach areas. We also took a tour of the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory in Hyannis, Massachusetts. We drove by the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port. It was impressive but no more so that the other homes in the area. There are many really gorgeous hundred year old houses here.
We made our way back to Lucy's campground and began doing some of the chores to break camp. We plan to head out tomorrow and make our way to Maine.
Tonight's pictures include:
- 1933 Sagamore Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal.
- Hyannis Beach.
- Small Lighthouse on Hyannis Canal.
- Our new favorite road. This is a quite different way to state congested area,
- Entering Hyannis Port.
- One of the Hyannis Port ocean front Houses.
- Hyannis Port Beach.
- U.S. Post office, Hyannis Port, Massachusetts 02647.
- Cape Cos Beach.
- This guy was right out the Ocean, and was ready to pose for a picture.

Lucy broke camp this morning in Rochester, Massachusetts. After three nights at the same campground, Lucy was ready to move on. We made our way north on US 1 and stayed off of the Interstate. As we went through Boston, we got on I-93 to make our way through downtown. As soon as we cleared the city, we got back on US 1. It was slow going as we went through many small towns along the way. We passed from Massachusetts, into New Hampshire, and into Maine. It was well worth it to get to see America up close and personal.
Late this afternoon, we arrived in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. We got Lucy a nice Campsite right in town. The campsite was small, and it took us a while to get Lucy situated. After Lucy was set up, we hit a local grocery store where SuEllyn scored a couple of lobster rolls.
We are now settled into Lucy for the night.
Tonight's pictures include;
- Lucy's campsite in Rochester.
- Approaching Downtown Boston.
- The Tower on The 1893 Boston Fire Department Headquarters.
- Entering the Tip O'Neill Tunnel in Downtown Boston.
- The 1999 Bunker Hill Bridge over the Charles River in Boston.
- Entering New Hampshire.
- the 1923 World War I Memorial Bridge over the Piscataqua River on US 1 that is the state line between New Hampshire and Maine.
- Cute sign at a roadside flower shop.
- Entering Maine.
- Victorian home in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Thanks for the continuing journal and photos!
Liking the recent state mottoes (sp?) -- Live Free or Die (NH) and The Way Life Should Be (ME). The earlier state signs don't seem to have the state mottoes on them as consistently. New York's used to be Excelsior -- Latin for "Ever Upward" as I recall from high school -- but not sure whether this is the current NY motto.
Love the Lobster Roll theme -- keep 'em coming! Your rolling into the main headquarters for this delicacy . . .
Have fun,
Peter
PS -- And thanks for the inspiration for us to finally take a quick trip -- our first of the year -- as reported on the 20--footer thread.

Walked the WW1 bridge from NH to Maine over the New Year this year as part of our walk. Our friends just downsized into Portsmouth. Such a great town. Looks much easier in June! Looks like you're having a great time. Thanks for sharing

Lucy is still camped in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid seventies. We got a fairly early start. It's Saturday and the Post Office closes at 11:00 and we had Moose Tags to get out.
We made our way down to Kennebunkport to have a look around and do some exploring. Kennebunkport is the playground of the rich and famous. There are some very significant houses in this area, including the Bush Compound.
We visited the Seashore Trolley Museum. It is world's oldest and largest museum devoted to public transportation vehicles in the world.
SuEllyn was able score a really good lobster roll from a food truck along the highway. After a nice lunch on a picnic table next to the food truck, we continued up the road to see the 1825 Wedding Cake House. It is one of the most ornate houses that we have ever seen.
To close out the day we made our way to Old Orchard Beach to check out the Saturday beach activities.
We then made our way back to Lucy for a quiet dinner in the trailer.
- A beautiful small 1960's Airstream spotted in a yard today.
- Emmons Clock Farm near Kennebunkport. The house and barn date to 1773. The clock tower and clock were added in the early 1900's.
- The 1887 St. Ann's Episcopal Church on the ocean in Kennebunkport.
- The Sanctuary in St. Ann's Church.
- The Bush Compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
- The Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport..
- SuEllyn scoring her lobster roll at the food Truck.
- The 1825 Wedding Cake House in Kennebunkport.
- Oceanfront Pier at Old Orchard Beach.
- The Carousel at Old Orchard Beach.

WHAT, no SOTB pictures.. what kind of wackjobs are you.. thats a "national" landmark we use going south and coming back to NC.. going south it mean not only cheap gas, but ROUGH as hell roads, taking us closer to Florida..
I mean a large Mexican subbarao 45 ft in the air with an elevator, what more do you need to know. I get a picture of it every time.. you have to, it's an icon.
OH, SC raise your gas tax by 2 cents a gallon, still lowest on east coast, and FIX your fricken roads.
I hear you on staying off interstates a well.. however some friends of my MIL that worked at Yellowstone several years, that traveled in 5th wheel, were killed in on a texas side road. driver crossed the centerline and the truck behind them plowed into the pile as well.. gone in an instant.
at least on interstate you have guard rails and in some places, especially on I-95 in SC lots of big trees to protect you. good and bad interstates they are.

Lucy is still camped in Old Orchard Beach, but has switched campgrounds. The first campground that we had been in was tight and not very nice. We moved today to a much nicer campground. Lucy now has five point hook-ups and likes this place much better. We will spend a couple of more days here to do further exploring.
This afternoon we visited with an Army buddy of Patrick's who, lives here in southern Maine. He and Patrick were in Afghanistan together on their last combat tour. He came by Lucy and we had a very nice visit. SuEllyn made lobster rolls for supper with lobster meat she had gotten from the grocery store. Patrick's friend, Hank, who is a local said that they were very good. We also thought that these lobster rolls were as good as any that we had gotten so far.
Since we didn't do any touring today, tonight's pictures are few. We will try to do better tomorrow.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Unusual mushroom on Lucy's campsite this morning.
- Fred and the Girls getting ready to leave the old campground.
- Arrival at Lucy's new campground.
- Lucy settled in at the new campground.
- Entrance at the Wagon Wheel Campground.
- SuEllyn's homemade Lobster Roll.

SuEllyn's lobster roll looked fantastic. I would give it a 9 or even 10. She's got it!

Maine Red Snapper
One would think that Red Snapper refers to fish. In this case it refers to hot dogs. Lucy is still camped in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. This morning Fred the truck was displaying a "check engine' light. We checked Fred with our own OBD2 reader and found that Fred had a malfunctioning diesel glow plug in his #4 cylinder. We took Fred to Galos Chevrolet in nearby Saco, Maine. They verified the problem and took Fred in for repairs. The dealership was serving lunch today for their customers, and we were able to partake of the Red Snapper lunch. Here in Maine Red Snappers are bright red hot dogs that "snap" when you bite into them. They were a little bit spicy and very good.
Fred spent a couple of hours in the shop getting his glow plug replaced. Fred was finished at about 1:30, and they had even washed him when the work was completed. The good news was that Fred's diesel glow plugs are warranted as part of the drive train for 100,000 miles. Fred has 98,800 miles on him. Another few days and we would have been paying for this repair.
As it was going to be a short day of exploring, we decided to head down to Wells, Maine to take a look around. On the way to Wells, we came across an antique car dealer. We stopped and looked at the cars and took some pictures. We continued down to Wells and got a look at their beach.
We headed back to Lucy for an early dinner and to start breaking camp as we plan to continue north tomorrow.
Tonight's pictures include:
- Fred getting worked on the the dealer's shop.
- The famous Maine Red Snapper.
- Fred all clean and beaming when he came out of the shop.
- 1952 Nash
- 1957 Ford Convertible.
- 1952 Pontiac Station Wagon.
- 1951 Packard.
- 1959 Ramble Station Wagon.
- The Beach at Wells, Maine.
- Sunset at Lucy's campground.

Lucy Has Escaped!
If you're still near Wells, head just a bit further south on Rte 1 to Ogunquit and walk the Marginal Way and enjoy lunch at any of the great little restaurants in Perkins Cove. When you head back north on Rte 1, Congdon's Doughnuts in Wells is a MUST! Bavarian Cream is my personal favorite if you can sweet talk Carol to go "extra heavy" on the filling 😀
