Lucy Has Escaped!

Well, Lucy is at it again. She made her escape this morning. Yes, this morning! We actually set out of Santa Rosa Beach about twenty minutes to twelve. We had to hook-up in the pouring rain, but Lucy was determined to get going. We are on our way up to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We headed up US 331 through Freeport and DeFuniak Springs, and on to Paxton, where we crossed into Alabama. We continued through the Alabama countryside all the way up to Montgomery where we picked up I-65.

The rest of the day's travel up I-65 was pretty uneventful with the exception of some really heavy rain south of Birmingham. We continued up to Cullman, Alabama, where Lucy made camp for the night. Lucy is overnighting at the Cullman Campground where we are all settled in for the night. We covered 325 miles today.

Here are a few pictures from today's travel.

Have a great trip. We just got back from buying our first Airstream from Chilhowee RV in Alcoa, Tennessee (May 28, 2015). Thanks for all your posts- they are very helpful and encouraging - already ordered the piano bench hinges from Amazon.

Smokies, we're heading there in September staying in Pigeon Forge at Up the Creek Campground. Never been there, is that a good choice?

By the way - this title has a "J" - did you rename Lucy to Jucy Lucy?

Thanks, I missed that until you pointed it out. I just changed the thread title to Lucy.

If you're in the Smokies are take a run up to Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground which is an Airstream only park. We stayed there last year and decided to buy a membership. Beautiful quiet location and if you like hiking, it is the place to go. We hope to go back in a few months.

No, it's a private campground just outside of Cullman. It has been owned and operated by the same owner for 30 years. It is very well maintained, and a full hook-up site was $23.00 including tax with a Good Sam discount.

Lucy pulled out of Cullman this morning at 9:30. This was an usually early start for Fred and the Girls. Lucy staying hooked up and no sewer dumps helped achieve this early departure.

We departed Cullman on state highways, purposely avoiding the Interstate. We had a nice leisurely drive through the Alabama countryside into the lake country around Guntersville.

Eventually, we had to rejoin the Interstate when we crossed into Tennessee near Chattanooga. We also crossed into Eastern time at this point, and lost an hour. We continued through Chattanooga and Knoxville, and into the Smokey Mountains.

Today's weather started out overcast, but eventually cleared and the sun came out. We had another 300+ mile day, and arrived at Pebble Mountain Campground in Chuckey, Tennessee in time to get set up before dark. We are right on the edge of the Cherokee National Forest and near the Big Smoky Mountains National Park. We plan to spend several days her exploring the area.

Here are some pictures from today's route.
