"Back in the day" while in school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, we used to hang out at Buffalo Springs Lake and they had campsites. It seems they still do and you can Google "Buffalo Springs Lake" to garner a bit more information. The lake is just outside Lubbock so it's not a central location. Since the Lubbock area sits on the high plains and has little or no topography, Buffalo Springs makes for a nice diversion as it lays in an arroyo or canyon of sorts and is first in a chain of two lakes the other being Ransom Canyon. The headwaters of the beautiful Brazos River begin here. Have a good trip to "The Hub City" and West Texas, home to friendly, plain spoken West Texas folk.
Hummm. Used to be that the locals would sport a bumper sticker, "Ski Lubbock." Maybe there's a campground near the slopes!

Mac Davis and I had one that said "Happiness Is Lubbock In The Rear View Mirror" but we eventually changed our minds. I married a Lubbock gal and I don't know what changed Macs mind.
