Looking for help with a pet safety question
We are planning a trip out west and will have our daughters dog with us. She will go out with us most days, but if she has to stay in the camper I want to make sure the temperature is ok, other than that no internet needs to fulfill. I have the 2023 30' Classic with Peplink (I believe this is correct, I am not on the camper at the moment.) Is the best thing to add a card to the peplink (or do you activate something that is already in the unit) or is the best option something completely different.
Thank you in advance,
Greg

The Microair Thermostat is a good option for being able to monitor/adjust temperatures remotely if you have internet in your trailer through your Peplink:

Something like Waggle is a good option if you don't have a router/wifi in your trailer:

Just us...
Doing Water Trials with our first Portuguese Water Dog was the reason we got an AS.
That was 36 yrs ago & we still have a PWD and we still have crates in both our vehicles...we never have left them unattended in the AS. YMMV

Hi
A lot depends on just where you happen to be when you leave the dog in the trailer. If it's 110 degrees in the full sun in the desert, that's very different than 75 degrees in the shade. It the first case, both A/C's will be running full bore and it will be 80 in the trailer. In the second case, open the window, turn on the fan and it likely is in the mid 70's.
In both cases the dog needs water. Running the water bowl dry is actually the biggest risk here. Dogs survived for many thousands of years without A/C. They do need water to cool down.
Next up is "how long?". An all day supply of water is a different target than a one hour supply.
Monitoring wise, your setup will depend on cell coverage. If the carrier your Pepwave is hooked to does not have adequate coverage at your site, you are out of luck. The same thing applies to coverage at your destination. There's lots of places that don't have cell coverage ....
Lots of variables ....

We, too, got our Bambi because we travel with our Wheaten Terrier, Bailey. She travels in the crate in our truck. We rarely leave her alone in the RV. In fact the only time she gets left alone is when we meet friends for lunch during our travels, and then she is only in the RV for a couple of hours, during which I check up on her. We just came back from a 7,700 trip across the US, from Florida to Yellowstone, then up through Canada back home to Maine. Bailey was not allowed anywhere in Yellowstone (except parking lots), and so she spent a lot of time with me walking around the designated areas, or sitting in her crate watching the world go by while I read. The other 22 campsites (yes, that many) allowed her to be out and about.

We leave food and water in her bowls in the bottom of the shower and the AC on.

We do not leave our dog in the AS. When we are unable to take her with us on day trips, she goes to doggie daycare. It is for her safety and our peace of mine. I just research potential businesses, call and write before making reservations. It’s easy since we have the WWW and cell phones.

You 2023 30ft Classic should have the Airstream CZone which, through the Pepwave, connects to a cell tower and you can "see" your trailer on your app. Airstream recommends you add an additional cellular SIM card to the Pepwave.
In my case we have a Verizon SIM added and when I am gone from the trailer I can see the interior temperature of the trailer. I can turn on the ACs from the app on my phone. You have to be hooked up to shore power with sufficient amps to run both AC units in the trailer. If you are only hooked up to a 30amp shore power then 1 AC is the best you can do.

I travel with my dogs along with STARLINK to make sure I have internet with my MicroAir. There is one other device I suggest, I highly suggest, you get this too as it will alert you if your rig loses power. But it gives you more benefits
1. It's something you can activate on and off remotely, so activate only when needed
2. it has a built in GPS, as an added security
3. it's self powered, so no need to have it plugged in, but if you have it plugged like I do to a shore power outlet, it will notify you if it goes on battery which means you lost shore power.
I found Waggle's Pet Monitor GPS/Lite easy to use & implement in my RV/Car/Home for monitoring my dog's temperature while I am away. It is worth investing in it to keep your pet's environment safe. Use my referral link to get a discount now!

An inexpensive but reliable device we use is Tempstick. You can monitor from your phone and set a range for alerts to be sent to your phone.

Apple HomePod mini and HomePod 2nd gen have thermometers too. HomePod mini is only $99 and has added benefit of music for your airstream.
We combine that with a HomeKit secure video camera so we have video and temperature monitoring.
we get automatically notified if the HomeKit accessories go offline
Typically would only leave pups for short periods , but being able to remotely check on him, to ensure he is calm and settled is great for peace of mind.

Thank you Bob! This will be on 2 separate evenings when we are staying at Cannon Beach RV Resort later this month. I think temps will be fine, but I would feel more comfortable knowing. I have found the peplink max transit pro setup confusing so I have yet to try and tackle the t-mobile 4g SIM card addition. I wish there was a simple way to add to the 1 gig temporary plan that came with the Airstream to just monitor my systems. I have ordered the waggle just in case I can't get the peplink figured out or to have in addition to it.
Thanks,
Greg

Thank you! I currently use the CZone monitoring and it works great, I think it came with a 1gig card to get started but that I need to get a new card before that runs out. Honestly, I have found it a bit confusing and the documentation very limited so I may be wrong on all this?

Leaving Pets Inside AS
Outside of monitoring, be sure to leave a sign either in a window or on the door that there's a pet inside as well as your contact information in the event of an emergency.
We also leave the radio on which seems to help with occasional separation anxiety.

I would 2nd the Waggle solution, it is Verizon LTE based so it doesn't require you to have a hotspot or campgroup wifi. In addition to warning you of low or high temps, it will also alert you if you loose power and it goes on battery. It can also alert on humidity. And a newer feature as it has a GPS is you can geofence you Airstream and you will get an alert if it moves outside of that area, so it can also be used as a GPS tracker if you Airstream is stolen. We have been using the Waggle for years and it gives up that extra piece of mind when we do have to leave the dogs.
The only downside is you do pay $150 a year for the Verizon service, in addition to the cost of the Waggle.
