Little Talbot Island State Park, Jacksonville FL
Couldn't resist posting this cool picture. We stayed for two nights at Little Talbot Island state park while visiting Jacksonville and St. Augustine.
Great park. More in-depth reviews here: RV Park Reviews :: Jacksonville, Florida ( FL ) - RV Parks and Campground Reviews
If the weather had been warmer, and if we'd brought our kayaks, this would have been a dream park! Incredible tracts of swamp-grass with small waterways running through them.
The sites have electric and water, but no sewer. Contrary to the reviews expressing concerns about narow roads in the park, we had no problem with our 31' Classic and F250.
However, pay attention to the size limitations listed in www.reserveamerica.com. If they say 20-foot, they mean it!
Here's the picture! You can forget about satellite connection! (double click on the pic to get a larger view) This was site #40 - plenty of room, and it was on a loop all by itself, so there's lots of privacy.
(by the way, we also stayed at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine - also very nice, and conveniently close to the town cente)

We will be there next weekend, March 5-7.
Our boys will be rowing in the Stanton Invitational Rowing Regatta.
The boys will be busing down with the team and staying in a hotel.
It will just be hubby, Cooper the JRT and me in the Airstream.
Are there a lot of bike paths?
Easy beach access? Cooper will want to catch his frisbee!

As I recall, there were lots of bike paths. You can find more about it on the Florida State Parks website. The beach is across the road. Not walking distance, but easy biking.
Have fun!

Great picture!
For more of the same, meander up the coast to the Fernandina Beach area and Fort Clinch State Park. Fernandina Beach is a small, picturesque town, full of moss-hung trees and beautiful old homes. Then, take the ferry to St. Mary's, Georgia. Such a beautiful part of the country.

Sorry we missed you
We're volunteer hosts at Little Talbot through March, and although we noticed your Airstream in the corner, we were not able to find you at home. So glad that you liked 'our' park.
Little Talbot Island is undeveloped -- Kayak Amelia is the only business. The beach, although it is across A1A, is less than a mile from the campsites. There is a 2.4 mile dirt bike/hike trail to the north end of the island and a 2+ mile paved trail to the south beach area.
Doug and Maggie, we agree with your comments on Fort Clinch -- another of our volunteer posts. It is so convenient to the great town of Fernandina Beach, and just 15 miles up A1A from here.
Hope everyone that comes by will drop in on us at Site #23.

Hi Bob,
I think we spoke briefly... when the power went out, I stopped by to see what might be done.
Like buying an umbrella to make sure it DOESN'T rain, I went and got gas for our H2000 generator. Sure enough, just as I drove back up in to the park, the power came back on!
It says a lot about a place that even cold and rainy, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

We liked it a lot, too. Great quiet area. We had no trouble bringing in our 30-foot Airstream.

My first post, long time lurker, could not resist. Growing up in Jax, Lil Talbot was always one of my favorite beaches. Surfing was better at north jetties, but for seclussion Lil Talbot is hard to beat. I spent many days with the beach to myself, totally isolated from the rest of the world. Pics brought back fond memories, I miss the seafood, the redfishing, the ferry, the oaks and spanish moss. As all have mentioned Fernandina is very quaint and user friendly. The area is very primative with a very rich history.

We went to Cumberland Island NS yesterday, on the ferry out of St. Mary's. Forests of live oaks, hundreds of years old, beautiful beaches. One of our best days, ever.

Wow. I thought I was the only one that knew about this little slice of paradise. Here I was in spot #35 back on the 19th of January.
