Which do you recommend for a short overnight stay:

1. Isle du Bois, or
2. Johnson Branch

For us it’s going to be a late evening arrival from IH35 West, we will stay hitched up and the next morning an early departure to get back onto IH35 West to continue the trip north.

It's been a long while, but if memory serves there are more sites on the north (Johnson Branch) side, and it's a bit more straightforward to get to from I35 (by the time you get up there, W and E have merged back into one highway). Although for my part I'd avoid I35W from downtown Fort Worth to about US287. The chaotic mess they call "construction" has made that a horror show the last few years.

We stayed overnight at the Johnson Branch Unit, in the Walnut Loop. It’s a beautiful State Park, the park manager and his staff were really nice and welcoming. This is probably the best maintained of the Texas State Parks that we’ve visited. We don’t make it to north Texas often but we’ll definitely stay here again if in the area, maybe even make it an extended weekend trip sometime. The park staff stated the park stays at full capacity starting in April. Because of its proximity to the Dallas- Ft. Worth metroplex I can see where it easily stays booked.
