Hi

Bring your passport. That way you can loop around through Canada. (IF the boarder opens up ....).

You don’t say where on Lake Champlain you are going, but the Islands are great. Bring your bikes and go to Isle la Motte. Get lunch at Hero’s Welcome on North Hero. Go to Snow Farm Vineyard. Get dinner at North Hero House. Go to Burlington and look for antiques. Stop at Harrington’s smokehouse south of Burlington and get some bacon.

What kind of campground and what side, NY or VT. Full hookups? In the Islands, maybe Apple Island Resort. Rustic? Grand Isle State Park.
In Plattsburgh, NY: Cumberland Bay park.
Also check out Hipcamp and Harvest host.

We stayed at Brookwood RV near Ticonderoga NY. Took the small ferry across at Ft Ticonderoga. Then we travel on over to the Morgen Horse Farm. Nice area

No hookups but Ausable Point State Park on the NY side has some beautiful waterfront sites and a big beach.

FYI this 2-year-old post in a similar thread may have some good ideas for places to visit in NY, if you have time:

There is a great walk-through butterfly exhibit at Niagara, but on the Canadian side I think. Amazing to walk around with hundreds of butterflies all around [and on] you. [ Not as scary as it may sound. ]

Of course The Baseball Hall of Fame is in Cooperstown

Have a great trip!

Peter

PS -- If you have time check out Letchworth State Park -- The Grand Canyon of the East -- just east of Niagara/Buffalo:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Letc...com&gws_rd=ssl

Also as you travel east toward Albany, if you are going that way, the Erie Canal will be nearby for hundreds of miles, and some of the old villages are easy to go into for lunch or a rest. I recall Lockport being interesting, but there are many.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erie_Canal
http://www.eriecanal.org/
http://www.eriecanal.org/maps.html
https://lockportny.gov/

Or, to get to Saratoga, you could also dip down south a bit and see the Corning Museum of Glass a little west of Binghamton. In your time frame, and with a stop in Cooperstown, however, this may be too out-of-the-way?

https://www.cmog.org/
Of course these tips were pre-Covid, so not sure what the visiting rules are now.

Have a great trip!

Peter

We will be on the Vermont side after we come back from Niagara. Going to be a little hot for rustic we think. No solar panels on this sweetheart. Please keep the ideas coming!

Button Bay State Park (no hookups) farther south. Campgrounds in Shelburne and Burlington. Do you have dogs? Just be aware that the lake is low and there could be a blue algae bloom which is toxic to dogs. This is more common in certain areas, northern parts of the lake especially.

We do not have dogs. We have been up this way about 4 years ago but still a lot to see in such a beautiful area.

I would highly recommend Little River State Park in Waterbury - classic VT state park. It is on a reservoir, hiking trails, mountain biking, close to Stowe (20 mins), close to Burlington (40 mins) and some great restaurants in the area. The park is clean, well maintained and quiet. The Grand Isle State Park is another great park on the water and in the islands (20 mins from Burlington). The Shelburne campground is more like a trailer park, the North Beach campground is just not the nicest although the location is close to Burlington and on the bike path, Lone Pine Campground in Colchester is more like a KOA with seasonal rentals.

Around Lake Champlain

Donít eat the fish. Mercury levels are high and the government limits human consumption to one a month. Just saying.
