January camping halfway between Dallas and Baton Rouge
Our son is going to run the marathon in Baton Rouge the Sunday before MLK day and we are thinking about taking the AS down on the long weekend. Rather than do the entire 6 hour drive (I just came off the 6 hour drive from Village Creek SP, ARK and still have that memory) to BR, would like to find either a COE or State Park halfway, probably an hour east of Shreveport so that we could knockout half the drive on Friday afternoon. Any suggestions from Louisiana Streamers? Also any suggestions for camping near Baton Rouge?
Thanks
Dana

Chicot State Park is a short distance off I-49 in between Alexandria and Opelousas. Closest town is Ville Platte. I've stayed there twice. It's also home to the Lousiana State Arboretum, with six miles of beautiful hiking trails.
It's more than halfway for you, but it's the best I can recommend.

Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston is on a lake, and very nice, east of Shreveport.
Farr Park Campground is a city park on the River Road just south of Baton Rouge. It is unexciting, but decent, as I recall. May be the closest you will get.

Grand Bayou Resort is private RV resort south of Shreveport. I've never been there but it looks nice from their website. Might be a good alternative if state parks or COE parks are not available.

Usually the coldest month of the year. No wetter than usual, though. Some overnight lows below freezing, very few daytime highs below freezing.

Might give me a chance to give my black and grey tank heaters a try

Perfect campsite for you.
Lincoln Parish Park is located in Ruston, LA, on I-20, one hour east of Shreveport. Rolling hills, beautiful trees and lake, affordable and convenient. We camp there with fellow air streamers and we live 4 miles away! We are also planning a vintage rally there soon. Happy trail!

Check out Lake Bisteneau State Park, near Shreveport or Palmetto Island State Park, near Abbeville, just west of Lafayette. Louisiana State Parks will honor the Federal Senior pass or senior discount. Also the parks have free laundry facility's.

Officially, that's only for Louisiana residents, but out-of-state visitors might as well show the pass when they check in; you never know when you'll meet a camp host who interprets the rules more leniently.

I need to get my federal pass anyway. Been meaning to do that. Arkansas state park where we stayed last week, rather nicely asked, are you or your wife over 62? then gave us the discount.....I figure if age works to my advantage, then why not!

Looks nice. Getting some good options. May have to use KOA in BR because park options near there look pretty limited

My choice would be Lake Bruin State Park near St. Joseph in Tensas Parish. The park is located on one of the most beautiful Mississippi oxbow lakes in the country. The campground is probably the nicest in La, in my opinion. There should be vacant sites at this time of year. The park is about 150 miles from Baton Rouge via US highways 65 and 61.
