I-95 Jacksonville, FL
For those of you who travel I-95 going to and coming from FL is it better/easier to take I-95 thru the city to take I-295 around it?
Does time of day make a big difference?
Thanks!

I always take I-295. I-95 traffic through Jacksonville can be a real pain.

I-95 Jacksonville
I drove a Class 8 (that is a semi tractor trailer 18 wheeler) all over Florida for over 12 years. Many, many times in Jacksonville on I-95. This was at a time when there was a LOT of construction being done to I-95. Whenever I had to go through Jacksonville I went straight on through on I-95. Since the vast majority of the construction is now completed it is even better.
We pull our Airstream through Jacksonville 2 times per year. 1 time going to Melbourne, Fl. and the return trip to Hendersonville N. Carolina. Straight through on I-95. Additionally, we go back and forth at least 3 more times in our regular car and go straight through on I-95. Try I-95 and see what you think.

Since The Players Championship was cancelled, you’re going to have a go of it either way. We are closer to 295, so always go that way. We don’t look forward to crossing the downtown bridges at any time of the day! Safe travels.

We live nearby (Amelia Island) and take I-95 if the goal is to get N to S or S to N. I would not recommend either if it were rush hour. Joe

I just returned from there visiting a family member for the Month of February and early March. We stayed in the Boca area. In that area I-95 always had accidents on it. This is due to the speed differences I've observed. Canadians are driving 45 MPH and others are driving 95 MPH. Not a good combination for sure. Because of this issue I personally avoid driving on I95. It just isn't worth it.

I drive it regularly and 95% of the time go straight through on 95. If you hit it at rush hour, there will be delays, just as in any major city, but it is not Miami style traffic. The eastern 295 bypass is shorter than the western and an easy drive southbound. Nortbound in the a.m. there is a backup due to construction and a merge point which pinches the road down and causes the delay.

I am surprised you would take I-95, esp when SR200/A1A is a total mess through Yulee. I live in Yulendina, off island, and it's not unusual for me to take the scenic route down A1A South through Amelia, and the Little Talbot Islands to Heckscher and then I-295 S from there. Beautiful scenery. Anyone coming down I-95 would not be advised to come this way simply because of the aforementioned construction on SR200 past Yulee. But if you want to see what the First Coast has to offer, beginning with Ft Clinch, I highly recommend that route. Same for coming back North. A very relaxed ride once you are on the islands.

Hi neighbor! We avoid SR200 at all costs, and take Hecksher when heading south from the island; my advice to the OP was if heading due N/S or S/N, with JAX in the middle. In that situation, we stay on I-95. Best, Joe

I-95 or I-295
Just curious if there are any updates on the question I posed last year. Any new construction to be aware of. Last year we drove straight thru on I-95 but traffic was sparse due to C-19 stay at home advisories.
We will be traveling north thru the Jacksonville area at about 10 am. on a weekday.
Thanks!

Always the western bypass. We experienced too many scary moments back when all the construction was going on, but the rush hour maniacs are always wrecking up on 95. RV’ing is about relaxing.
