I-77 West Virginia stop over suggestions

Need to be in Charlotte, NC on Monday, April 3rd leaving from central Ohio. I'll have the weekend to get there and am looking for suggestions on a good stop over about midway. It will just be me and my Weimaraner traveling in the 345.

My wife is from Williamstown right across the river, actually has property on the Ohio. Blennerhassett Island SP is pretty cool in Parkersburg. You can tour the mansion, Parkersburg isn't a sight to behold but the surrounding area is beautiful, especially the 77 drive south to Charleston. The best part of your venture will be the extreme southern part of WV right when you cross into VA at Rocky Gap. If you can make it that far, stay there for a night.

Happy travels!

We have stayed at the Beckley WV rest area that services NB and SB (37.806485,-81.211801). We asked and then parked in the parking lot with no issues. This is more like a truck stop as there is :
Restrooms
Picnic Table
Vending
RV Dump Station(with rinse water only)
Gas
85 truck parking spaces
24/7 Store
4 Diesel Lanes
4 Showers
Burger King
Quiznos
Starbucks
Travel Store
ATM
showers are open from 6am to 10pm and are $7.50 without a towel package and $10 with a towel package.

Tamarack, at the rest area service plaza, has an RV parking area which allows overnight parking. The earthen berm blocks the view of the truck parking area at the service plaza, and helps muffle much of the sound.

If you want a campground, there is a KOA in Wytheville, Virginia, that is easy off-and-on from I-77.
It's probably 3 hours from Charlotte, and you can plan your entry into the Chaos that surrounds the city with a little more precision. I've found 3 AM is a pretty good time, but that's just my opinion...

Tamarack is worth a trip just to see it Good places to eat inside. Free overnight parking. Be a shame to miss it.

I dive this frequently. I use Claytor Lake SP which is close to I-77. Sometimes I get off at Charlottesville, and stop at Lake Kerr which has 3 Corps of Engineer parks. KOA at Fancy Gap can be tight.

Tamarack

Agree with the Tamarack recommendation. We've stayed there a couple times on the way down/home from the south. We're in Pittsburgh.. which is 7 hours to Charlotte. It's about 4 hours from our house so just a little over half way.

I'm from southern WV and working in Charlotte, NC as a travel RN and living in our Airstream. Tamarack is beautiful and an easy stopping place and right off the interstate. Not sure if you've set up where you're staying in Charlotte, but might be able to offer some help/advice. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Happy travels.
