I-70, I-44 & "Most travelled" roads in MO

Can you believe it? They are actually going to use road funds to improve roads in Missouri!?!

We were discussing this in chat Tuesday night. In November Missouri voters approved a referendum that directed funds back to the roads. The focus of those funds will be Missouri's most travelled roads.

You can read about the different plans at Missouri Department of Transportation here: http://www.modot.state.mo.us/plansan...P2005-2009.htm

The Kansas City Star has an article and maps here: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/ under "Smoother Rides Ahead in Missouri"

There is hope in sight!

Although some monies from our "fuel use tax" goes to other things as mentioned in recent media articles, we must remember that other things, such as boats, tractors, , generators, lawn equipment, etc. all purchase fuel and pay these taxes when in fact they don't use the roads at all.

I agree that our roads and bridges need repair...and that a tax tied to fuel consumption seems to be the most "fair" way to pay for road construction and upkeep by users. I also feel that a developer or major company which moves into an area and causes more traffic and/or road damage should help local government with the additioal costs associated with the road expansion and upkeep over time.
