I-40 West Thru Oklahoma City

Has anyone gone through Oklahoma City recently on I-40 West to Amarillo. Is the interstate in better shape going from the Fort Smith, Arkansas area through Oklahoma City than it was a few years ago. We have been going to Colorado through Wichita Falls the last few years.
Thanks for any input.

Rick

Why not head north to Hwy 50 in Colorado then west to I-25 or north to I-70 depending on your CO destination.
There is a really nice state park (John Martin State Park) near Hasty, CO.

Twinkie, are you saying go north to Kansas and take Hwy 50 to Colorado. It looks like for us we would go towards Wichita, Kansas first. Not familar with Hwy 50 or 400 through Kansas. Places to buy diesel, places to stay?
Thanks for the idea, but need to make sure I understand your directions.

I-40 west of OKC has been resurfaced and widened in the last few years as to alleviate the "porpoising" concrete section through Yukon, so it is much improved. Most of the pavement to Amarillo is good and light to moderate traffic. I can't speak to east of OKC to Ft. Smith and avoided it the last time I have gone east. It will involve turnpikes, but you might consider the Muskogee Turnpike through Tulsa down the Turner to OKC and around the metro on the Kilpatrick. Much better road surfaces, not too much mileage difference and much less stress.
Also, I tried US 50 from Dodge City to Salida, CO 2 weeks ago just for the experience of seeing new country. On the plus side, much less traffic, road surface good to very good. Scenery OK, but it's the feedlot corridor. Returned by I-25 to Raton, 287 to Amarillo. Much easier travel in my opinion.
Safe travels and hope my advice helps.

Thanks. Think we will stick to the southern route for now.
