I-40 west of the Mississippi River

I seem to recall some negative comments about road quality but I can't find the thread. We are heading to New Mexico in early September. We need to travel fast for 2 days so we can have a week there and I-40 is the most direct route. Anyone had any recent travel on 40?

I travelled it Mar 16th through 22nd. It was fine. Much better than the roads in CA! Ther eare period os roughness but they do not last long. Construction around Little Rock. I went through on a Saturday.

Memphis and ARK

Construction on the East side of the Mississippi river at Memphis has proceeded nicely and isn't as nasty as it once was. Just across the bridge, heading westbound, the construction picks up again for a bit and the passage is narrow and rough for a mile or so. Take it slowly there if towing your Airstream. Generally, things are much improved around Memphis. Arkansas is always an interesting stretch but not as rough as it was several years ago. I think they left a few fairly long rough sections just to remind us how bad it was six years ago

Michelle is right. If you want to try rough roads, come to calif. It's a shame because we used to have the best road system of any I have travelled.
I guess we have to pay for all of these social programs for the residents somehow. Both legal and non-legal.
