Once you get out of town is shouldn't be bad.

Morning traffic in that area tends to move mostly eastbound, toward Dallas. Starting out after 8 or 9 am will help a lot, as the commuters will be at work by then.

Appreciate the help. Our normal routine is to leave after rush hour, and didn't know if it was as a friend described, worse than Chicago, where everyone is either going in late or getting off early.
Thanks

We drove day before yesterday from Poverty Point State Park near Delhi, LA to Fort Worth/Weatherford KOA. The LA part of I-20 is unusually rough. There are also some sudden and severe potholes on I30 in Dallas. We had to reattach one of the door hinges under the sink and replace a plastic door latch in a storage area under the sofa at the end of the day. We had to stop at DFW Airstream to pick up needed parts.

The traffic was heavy all along the way. Speed limit run but no way to ever let your attention wander.

There is a lot of talk about infrastructure. I hope some of it will be spent on I20 in LA and east Texas.

Tyler State park is a fairly short trip from Fort Worth but it’s a great place to camp. Right off of I 20.

I-20 through Shreveport and Monroe are riddled with large and deep potholes. Lower speeds will help but it will still be a very rough ride. It will rattle your teeth and thoroughly beat up your trailer. We took a chunk of asphalt into the hood and windshield there in December while towing the AS.

We catch I-20 at Tyler (US 271) or near the TX-LA state line (US 79) on our way to/from central Texas so I canít comment on I-20 west of there.

Iím interested in alternate routes, too. In March, we chose the southern (I-10) route through Houston, Baton Rouge, etc., to Georgia but the 20 miles of I-10 construction west of Houston is no fun in the early morning darkness.

If you continue on to the Atlanta area, I highly recommend getting off I-20 at about Toomsuba and taking US 80 toward Montgomery then I-85 to Atlanta. Construction on I-20 east of Toomsuba (canít remember how far east) reroutes the left eastbound lane across the median putting oncoming westbound traffic just a couple feet away. Of course, you would be in the right hand lane but it is narrow, too.

Regular traffic pattern

Traveling east on I20 from Ft. Worth through Arlington and Dallas after 8:30 should not be an issue. Just normal DFW metro traffic that is typically moving to some degree (slow or fast) most of the time.

I-20

Our Airstream storage facility is on I-20 and Duncanville Road, closer to Dallas. We've towed on I-20 a lot over the past eight years, as we go to Atlanta a lot to see friends, using them a jumping point to the East coast. I have NEVER had a significant traffic issue. I-20 is a major East-West trucking route, so there are often lots of them on the road, but that is true anywhere on I-20. No worries.

Take 67 all the way to I20 then east, not normally bad at all.

I agree. 67 is a much more pleasant drive compared to I20.

I20 E to Shreveport

Take the North Loop around Shreveport. You will miss the worst part of the road through town. E of Shreveport has been repaved in recent years.

Map Quest offers two routes from my location, Alvarado TX to Shreveport LA. Route 1 would be US67 to I-20, while Route 2, approx 30 min. longer travel time, would be US67 to I-20 for a short period exit onto US175 to US79 and rejoining I-20 just west of Shreveport.
Anyone traveled the 175 route, just looking for options?

I live in Shreveport and I-20 through Shreveport and Bossier City will test how good you are at packing. The best route is to take I-220 and around the cities. The rest of I-20 through Louisiana is fine. I-20 through east Texas is usually packed with 18 Wheelers.

We travel Hwy 80 instead of I-20

We pick up Highway 80 at Terrell after missing much of the early morning traffic either way. We stay on 80 all the way to Marshall and then get back on I20 at Marshall. We prefer the slower pace and less 18 wheeler traffic. Great place to catch lunch near Hawkins Tx about halfway.

I drove east on I-20 last week from Benbrook to Canton starting about 7:30AM. Traffic was light-moderate but moved at the speed limit.
