Hyde Memorial State Park?

Anyone have experience with this park? I was thinking about using it as a base to visit Santa Fe while my mom is out visiting. As close as it is to Santa Fe, will I have trouble getting reservations? Thanks

Hi Rodney,
We have not stayed at Hyde Memorial Park, but Kate and I have driven through it several times when going skiing up the mountain at Ski Santa Fe. It looks like it would be a good base to hang out with lots of tall conifers. Looking at it from the road, I am not sure if there are remote campsites or just those along the road. Thanks Dennis. Now that my family affairs have been taken care of, I expect to get back on the road again starting Sunday. I will spend about three weeks transiting from TN to NM and then I will be in the four corners area until early November. I expect to post regularly as I go.

Hyde Memorial State Park is el primo. It only has a few sites with electricity. There is also a Forest Service campground a mile or so down the road if you can't find a site. The whole area will be real crowded with leaf peepers real soon. The fall aspen is unforgetable. Check with NM State Park website for reservations. There are also first come first serve sites.

I tried to do that earlier but they only seem to have a couple weeks ahead of time available to make reservations. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. BTW is the Pumpkin thing on? It looks like a hoot.

I was at Hyde Park on a weekend during the height of leaf season and actually found an empty electric site. Next to 3 other Airstreams. That was just dumb luck. But I think between Hyde Park and the forest service campground you have a pretty good chance. Labor Day weekend of course might be another story. When are you thinking of going? I'm heading up kind of that way this weekend.

I want to go there directly following the Balloon Rally. Mom wants to do the Plaza again. I think we might head up to Chama to do the train after that.
