Humbolt Redwoods State Park...

This question is for anyone who has camped at Humbolt Redwoods State Park in Calif.

The information for the campgrounds lists "trailers up to 24' and RVs (motorhomes) up to 35'". If I reserve one of the motorhome sites will I be OK with my 31' Excella?

Thanks,

Maybe not - I haven't been to that particular park - but I have been to a couple of the more northern parks in redwoods... The problem isn't the sites - it's the roads through the campground. At Elk Prarie and other parks the roads are really winding and long rigs may not get though. The roads snake to avoid the trees. We have a 20 ft tt and a Chevy 2500 PU - it was tight....

Anyone been to Humbolt????

Steve - you spelled Heywood correctly! Impressive

In reference to Humbolt. You should be able to call the ranger directly and verify this representation. Although there are many sites 'back-in' the camping area where it is narrow and winding, there is also 'open-field' area (~ 250 X 150 square yards); at what I will call the mouth of the campground. Just adjacent to the restrooms & 'pay' showers.

Road access in is no-problem. The pix with my Airstream (two top pix) has a horseshoe drive with about 10-12 sites - some drive thru, and the other side of the field (other pix lower left) has about 12 more. Each with a 'bear-proof' trash container. You will wake up with elk feeding on the berries in the field, if you haven't beat them to it.

The area that park is in is 'to-die-for'. What majestic beauty, almost overwhelming. I would not have missed it for the world ... one of the highlights of my trip around America last Spring/Summer. If I didn't base out of Florida and the East coast, I would go there often.

Don't miss it!!!!! My suggestion - Venture Forth! You've got reverse!

I've been to, I think it was Albee Creek Campground. Built on a hill with road winding thru trees close to raod. I had my VW Westy then, so it was perfect. I would NOT try to get my 31' Classic in there now a days, though. There is a really nice RV Park up there in the redwoods. I'll look it up and let you know the name.

Wow, nice campground. Didn't know some had electrical hookups. I'll have to check it out. What is the name of this particular campground?

Humboldt State Park

We were thru there last spring (April) and the cg was closed so I can't tell you how your rig would fit. As a backup, have you checked Jedidiah Smith state park outside Crescent City? It's on the Smith River in a great stand of redwoods, nice park, easy acces off US101 on Hwy 199. Be advised though, 199 east over the hill to Interstate 5 is not for the faint of heart. we did it southbound with a Ford F250/Safari 25B. Tight Susie in spots.....Also, don't let anyone tell you you can boondock/dry camp along 101 in the lagoon area south of redwood Creek, the NPS put a stop to that several years ago. hope your rig fits in Humboldt Park, it's a great area. some wonderfull trails up redwood creek, lots of nice beach walks too.
