Hudson Valley camping

First post as an actual Airstream owner! Can't wait to start wandering as soon as our friends at the UAW get around to building our truck...

Due to family obligations, most of our travel right now is back and forth between our home in Ohio and family in Poughkeepsie and Millbrook NY.

Next summer, I would like to take the Airstream and use that area as a "base" to spend a few days to a week at a time, between short vacation runs into western New England.

Looking for recommendations. We won't need a lot of amenities (electric would be nice, but that's about it), mostly looking for a safe place to stay convenient to family in places mentioned above.

Hi David. And congratulations on getting your AS. You will enjoy it.

We have visited the Hudson Valley several times and have thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Each time we stayed at the KOA Holiday Newburgh. We found it to be centrally located to the things we wanted to see and do.

We're glad to hear that your travel scope is broadening.
The planning is half the fun... for my wife. If you're like me, delegate the research to a family member who does enjoy it.
She uses online reviews, but says it's best to look at a bunch of them to see which ones cover your interests and requirements best.
For uncomplicated stays, check out state parks, Army Corps sites, and even county parks. (Opportunities vary by region.)
State gazeteers by DeLorme or National Geographic list campgrounds and recreational possibilities by state, in addition to providing detailed maps with geographical contours (to help you avoid scary routes).
