How much would you pay for free parking?
How much would be willing to pay to a church or other organization to park for a night in there lot. Sorta like Boondocking with a purpose.

I normally leave a 10 dollar donation if I stay more than an hour or two.
BTW the Moose Club and several other fraternal organizations often have free or almost free parking. 3.00 fee at one in NC.

$20.00
We donated this to a church winter heating fund, when the women of this 160 year old rural West Viginia church arrived early one Saturday morning to set up for the annual fundraiser to pay the heating bills...and found us parked in their parking lot.
They didn’t ask for anything from us, but it was the right thing to do.

About the same amount that I would drop in the collection plate on a Sunday morning at the church I normally attend.

Some "lot-docking" spots provide some power, sometimes water or dump station. I would certainly pay near the going rate as a donation...
Many of the organizations that permit 'free' parking are always in need of donations, so why not?
In my mind, it's similar to overnighting at Walmart or Cracker Barrel--it is an honorable thing to at least patronize the store/restaurant to show appreciation. When we travel, we usually park at Walmart or Cracker Barrel to buy supplies or eat a meal, so to me, it makes sense to also be a customer.

If I am at a church property and just parked. Ten dollars is a nice donation. A favorite place to park overnight while on the road is a Cracker Barrel or walMart. Both will usually accommodate you and are free.

How do you know if a church allows you to spend the night there?

Ordinary politeness would suggest that for any 'free' parking it is a good idea to ask first...

Many, but not all, churches have an office that is manned by a secretary during normal working hours, to attend to scheduling weddings, funerals, memorial services, baptisms, and the like. At churches with an office, you can look up their telephone number and call in advance to ask permission.
Even if there's no one in the office, or if there's no office, there will usually be a telephone number listed for the church, even if it's just a staff member's or clergyman's home phone.

I think $20 is fair.
Maybe campground owners will cringe at this, but I'd love to see campgrounds with plenty of space open up an area for "no facilities". If you pay $40 for the normal spots with pool, power and water, charge $20 just to spend the night in the open lot.
Inside the fence for security, but not connected to services.
I hate to pay $40 when I arrive at 8 PM and leave a 8 AM and do nothing other than sleep.
Better than WalMart, and everyone wins.

First of all, I have a form letter that people fill out with their name, function, date, phone numbers and sign, giving us permission to stay the night.
As for cost, I have found that offering to pick up garbage on the grounds of a church or fix something in the building, is a lot more appreciated than money. As for Wallmart, we buy things; as for restaurants, we buy meals.
Also, in a sense you are providing a form of on site security if staying somewhere.
Cheers
Tony

Haven't done either.....but if a non-profit, 20 bucks. If a commercial establishment or restaurant, I'd go in and shop or have dindin.
