How Do You Blow Dry Hair while Dry Camping

This is a ladies question usually. How do you blow your hair dry while dry camping? I don't want to look like the wicked witch from the north. I do have a butane curling iron that is really great.

I prefer a sharp razor and lather. Avoids the need to blow dry!

You need a high watt (2k +) inverter. Large battery back depending on how long you dry camp for.

Well, there are people who haul a generator around just to use an electric coffee maker rather than use a less electrically-dependent method, so I guess you could see if there's a Conair-branded inverter generator to match the blow dryer.

There is nothing more attractive to an outdoor Guy and Gal meeting someone with Wild Hair. For some, ANY hair will do.

If you are in a humid area, after you blow dry while OTG Boondocking it will take less than ten minutes to be dripping wet, again from perspiration.

Nancy gives me at home a FADE haircut. From one to four on the clip ones. Never looks 'wild', she says I have the perfect head for it, and I save $20 a cutting.

Nancy does the towel dry, shake and off we go up the side of the mountain. She looks much younger and healthier.

OTRA15 beat me to it... Costco $24 after the $7 coupon. We have saved several hundred dollars in haircuts that can be used to play our favorite nickel Video Poker at the local Casinos.

Scrunch and go. Ponytail. Try some water with a little salt or a commercial product that references beach hair. Enjoy the freedom and leave the blow dryer behind.

I love this question as WE are always dry camping even when we do have hookups. (Cause we don't have electric yet)

I too look slightly better with my hair blow-dried in the morning.

Last time we were out for a long weekend we were parked next to an electrical pedestal so I just plugged in there and blow dried using the Airstream as my mirror. I got a couple of funny looks but campers understand.

The other day when we were at Tractor Supply I saw a couple of ball caps that said "Farm Hair Don't Care".
So maybe what we need to do is get some ball caps or t-shirts that say, "Camping Hair Don't Care" or "Airstream Hair Don't Care"

When all else fails I let it dry naturally and then clip the sides up onto the crown which gives it a little more body and look slightly better than flat.

Low watt hair dryer

While most of these answers are funny, they don’t answer your question. Purchase a low-watt pet dryer that works with your current inverter. I bought a 650 Watt Andis pet dryer on Amazon. $29.99. Works like a charm. Has enough power to dry my hair well and works while Boondocking.

I am hoping this comes out soon. https://volobeauty.com/products/volo-go. Powered by lithium ion batteries. I think it might be in the $400 range.

My wife requires these items when RV'g. She does not want to hear the generator! We use a GoalZero Yeti 1000 generator (lithium) that we take with us. It's noiseless, 45 pounds and the size of a car battery. I've run an extension cord behind the walls to an area easily accessible in the galley for her to plug the 120v items into. It was so easy to do and it provides backup power for the RV, too.
We use the Yeti 1000 for other things when not RV'g - like boating, back up power for my office and any remote or emergency power needs at home. I feel we have easily justified its expense.

300 watts solar
300 amp-hours lithium
2,000 watt inverter
80 amp Bosch alternator that we're still working the kinks out of (will probably add a second alternator just for lithium charging)

Blow dryer, toaster, and microwave oven all work great and are indispensable with the way we travel. I sometimes work from the road, and I have to be "business casual" presentable. Hair must be blown dry. I have really, really bad hair, no matter how short I cut it (and it's currently shorter than my husband's). There's no way I can exist without a blow dryer.

I just returned from 5 weeks on the road. Zero hook-ups and hair blown dry when needed.

My wife said at the beginning she needed a blow dryer and so when I renovated I made sure to have a plugin from the inverter close to the bath sink .... low wattage dryer and using it for a few minutes doesn't effect the battery much.
We rarely are boondocking more the 2-3 days and it works great.

Happy Wife .....Happy Life!!

Thinking outside the box here. My hair is about 1/8” long, so I can’t test this, but how about a gas-powered or rechargeable leaf blower? Place it on a tree limb and stand in front of it with a handheld mirror and brush.

Hi! We dry camp more than half our 500+ nights camped thus far. Without use of generator using our 1000 watt inverter I can dry my chin length hair with my Conair 1875 Watt Compact Hair Dryer on "low setting" and "high setting with our 1000 watt generator. You can still find this compact model at Amazon, Best But or Target.

Thousands of men and women traveled the Oregon Trail, from Independence, Missouri to the West Coast, without Hair Dryers or Air Conditioning.

They were NOT Boondockers.

I think Donutboy is onto something. Eliminate the Mirror... and you can be the most beautiful woman in everyone else's... eyes. A big smile and a happy disposition is all one needs when Off the Grid.

When I was a hard core backpacker, I used dry shampoo (sprays on, no water, didn't affect the hair styling). The boyfriend couldn't believe it was essential (it was in my pack, don't know why he was complaining). Anyway, some other options are to use the hand dryer in the campground bathroom (if there is one). I've turned the nozzle up and styled as usual. At one point, I had a 12V hair dryer that plugged into the cigarette lighter. Very small and portable but it does take a bit longer than a standard blow dryer.
