I believe the discussion revolves around securing the trailer hitch ball release mechanism.

Yes same here. And it allows a quick release if needed

This is a Reece pin I bought as a set. It moves the pin further away from the hitch so you can easily grab ahold of it without getting greasy fingers.
PICTURE should be tilted clockwise for correct angle.

"I believe the discussion revolves around securing the trailer hitch ball release mechanism."

In that case I use a Master key lock with a 1 3/4 inch shackle.

I use the same as StreaminGeo. I have a set of 3 keyed alike and use 2 for the wheel locks and 1 on the tongue latch. I dont lock it while traveling just incase I need a quick detach. Never lost it yet.

Bolt Locks

I wanted to secure my hitch (easy to steal the trailer by pulling the hitch pen) but hate extra keys. I was willing to pay too much to eliminate a group of keys.
The Bolt system uses my ignition key for all the locks: hitch pen, the lock I installed for the batteries, locks for wheels, the lock for the coupler when off truck (needs modification for Airstream, that is another story), and the coupler latch--all with a key I already have!

I hope you find this helpful.

My initial query should have shown a photo that might have avoided any confusion but my AS is 30 minutes away. However, thanks to your suggestions, I now have what I think I need. Thanks!

For many years, I have used a long shank Master padlock. I never have to worry about it being removed without my knowledge. Just another option.

I just use a carabiner clip. It's a safety to stop the hitch clamp from opening. I'm not worried about locking it. It does the same thing as a D clip, and I already had it.

Here's my problem. The clips are sometimes difficult for me to push in and pull out and I curse a lot when that happens. I'd like something easier to use. I do NOT want a pin that locks the clip down. I want to continue with something that just pins it in place but easier to slip in and out and gives me the option to do a quick release if necessary. Thank you for your suggestions.

I have a locking hitch pin, plus a pad lock for the AS I don’t trust any one.

I use a good 'ol padlock. I keep the key with my trailer keys. Super easy and also gives some theft protection. You may have to try different sizes to find the right fit. Not a big deal. Happy Camping!
