Help,Trip from Kenmore Wash to San Antonio Texas

Need help to decide . I am helping to move a relative and need advice to plan the trip. Bing maps has given two routes ;

Route 1 approx. 2500 miles ) Due south on the I-5 to LA then east on I-10 East passing through Arizona and New Mexico before getting into Texas

Route 2 approx.. 2200 miles , more interesting but a lot more grades )I-90 East,US-97 South,I-84E and dropping down taking in Idaho, Utah, New Mexico to Texas .

Please advise on road and weather which would be better. The routing around LA, ( if we went in that direction )
The truck he has rented is from Penske Truck Rental is 26 ft. and it is slow as we tested it up hills . Empy the thing peaks @ 45 Mph up hill and full out on the flat 55 MPH. It doesn't look like we will be getting any speeding tickets here.

The hot and boring route on IH10 is easiest.

I seem to remember getting off near Buttonwillow race track cutting past Edwards AFB to avoid LA, but it's been a lot of years.

trip done

Just finished the trip today , wouldn't do it again ,all driving and sleeping and eating its NDF (no damn fun, 4 ,11-12 hour days)
BTW we took option 2, and we where glad to omit Calf especially the LA area.
I am flying back to cooler weather its hot and humid down here, beam my back Scotty!

Glad the trip was successful! Gives a whole different perspective of OTR drivers, eh?
