Help towing an Airstream Safari from AZ to CA

Hello All,
I'm currently looking into purchasing a 1977 22ft Safari that is near Prescott, AZ. Problem is I dont have a sufficient tow vehicle at the moment in order to get it home (97' V6 3.4L Tacoma, I live in La Crescenta, CA 91214).
I am looking for someone who might be willing to tow the AS for me.
Obviously willing to pay for gas and time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Christian

If the Tacoma is in good shape and you are a little bit patient it will easily tow a 77 22' Airstream. You will climb the large hills in second gear at 45-50 MPH but other than that it will run along nicely at 60 MPh and give you pretty good mileage. If you have the original radiator you may need a new one. It will need a transmission cooler if it is an automatic, brake control and wiring and a class 3 receiver. No matter what vehicle you ultimately tow with you need a weight distribution hitch and sway control.

I read a lot of forums on tow vehicles and it seemed most people thought it not a good idea to tow with the Tacoma. That said the Tacoma is in excellent shape, manual transmission and I have looked into weight distributing hitches but I really dont know what I am looking for? Reese was mentioned as a solid hitch and I found that online but unsure what model to look for. Seeing how I have no experience towing I dont want to put myself in a tough situation. A friend of mine said he pulled a 63' 22ft Safari from NM with a v6 Explorer without the brakes hooked and claims to have had no problems!?
