Help! In SC, not sure where to go for maiden voyage!

Hi there! We just bought a 2016 25fb Flying Could and we are headed out on our first trip this weekend.... but have no clue where to go! We are on the border of South Carolina and Georgia, would love to go somewhere kind of close. We have 3 kids under 7 going with us and just cannot wait to start our adventures. Can anyone suggest where we should head? All of the websites are confusing us at this point!! Thank you in advance!

Where to go on 1st trip

One decision to make is if you want full hook-ups, activities for the kids, playgrounds and easy parking and access. If some of these rank high on your criteria then there is a nice Jellystone Park Campground is Swansea, SC. These franchise campgrounds really cater to families with small children.

If you are looking for nature, outdoor activities, beach walking, shell collecting then Edisto State Park comes highly recommended. The sites there will have water and electric, and a dump station and restrooms with showers.

If you are looking for something that sort of falls in between the two above as far as amenities, check our Willow Tree Campground near North Myrtle Beach, SC. This is a 5 star campground with full hook-ups, a lake, fishing, paved walking and bike paths and an excellent playground for the children. The beach is a short drive away, but you are out of the congestion around Myrtle Beach. This campground features long pull through sites with paved parking and patios. It is quiet and peaceful and immaculately maintained. Usually a nice mix of older campers and younger ones with families.

Just some ideas. Happy camping.

Hilton Head should not be far from you.

This place is pricey but could make for an event-free first trip.

Edisto Beach SP or Hunting Island SP. However, if you want a true shake down, then pick any KOA or full service campground so you can test all the appliances as well as A/C, heater etc.

Campgrounds in South Carolina

Lake Wateree State Park near Winnsboro, SC (north of Columbia off I77), only 109 miles from North Augusta, is beautiful. Here is a link to the web page: Lake Wateree State Park Camping

Hawe Creek Army Corps of Engineers Park, near McCormick, SC, is about 40 miles from North Augusta and has a positive rating on RV Park Reviews. Here is a link to the RV Park Review web page on the campground: Hawe Creek COE Campground Link to the Hawe Creek Campground reservations website: Hawe Creek COE Campground Reservations

In the Charleston, SC area James Island County Park is very highly rated. Here is a link to the RV Park Review page: James Island County Park Campground Here is a link to the James Island Campground website: James Island Campground Website

You are fortunate South Carolina and Georgia have many terrific State Parks and Corps of Engineers campgrounds. The state park websites for both states have park locators. The Army Corps of Engineers also has websites showing campgrounds in both states. Once you find something that interests you, campgroundreviews.com is a good place to go for visitor comments on the campground. It is also a good resource for finding campgrounds in any area of the country you happen to be in.

Georgia State Parks Website: Georgia State Parks

Army Corps of Engineers Camping Website: Army Corps of Engineers Lakes Camping

Enjoy your travels in your new Airstream.

Myrtle Beach state park, or Ocean Lakes campground. We have stayed at both. Both are great places to go.

Hilton Head Harbor and RV Resort and Marina

We stayed at Hilton Head Harbor a week or so ago as we were heading back from Florida. It is a beautiful campground. It definitely has the luxurious feel, but still has a swimming pool and playground. My wife and I loved it. Kids may prefer one of the mega huge Myrtle Beach campgrounds though (Ocean Lakes, Pirateland or Lakewood).

There is actually an Airstream Rally at Pirateland in October (8th - 11th).

We enjoy Charleston, James Island County Park. This is a very nice campground about 10 minutes from downtown Charleston and 10 minutes from Foley Beach. You won't be disappointed.
My $0.02 worth.

Hunting Island near Beaufort

Hunting Island State Park. Great small campground close to non crowded beach. Lots to do in Beaufort and surrounding areas. Some full hookups.

However it usually booked way in advance. Going this November but reserved this time last year.

Went to a rally at Lake Wateree State Park last year. Nice park, well spaced sites. It's about halfway from Columbia to Charlotte off to the east of I-26 a few miles.
