HELP! Boondocking near Lake City Colorado?

We just arrived in Creede after having to cancel our reservations in Durango due to the fires. The smoke here in Creede is a bit much and we were thinking about heading back up Hwy 149 to the Lake City area and were wondering if anyone has found any suitable dry camping spots along the North Fork Gunnison River? We have a 28’ International.

My favorite spot in that area is Wupperman county park on the shore of Lake San Christobal. There is a spot, if open, where you can back right up to the water and a great spot if you have a kayak, but there is a fee. Other spots further back. There are some free boondock spots further back in, (Williams CG). There are a couple of spots heading north on the river at The Gate and at Red Bridge. Ask in Lake City for current info.
