Heading south in June

Hi folks.

In early June, my wife and I are headed from Northern VA down to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Our plan is to try to get down there in 2 days, making a quick overnight stop in Savanah GA. Once we reach our destination we will need to park the trailer somewhere, as we have free hotel accomadations for a few nights. Can anyone recomend a decent cheap campground in the area? Even something 10 to 20 miles from downtown Ft. Lauderdale would work for us. We'd be leaving it there for 4 nights before we picked it up and headed back north. With that said, our return trip will be 2 nights. Any good recomendations on where to stop to split this up and still wind up in some interesting places. We have been known to enjoy beaches, roadside oddities, and generally anything considered tacky or offbeat, but still enjoy historical landmarks as well. I don't know the south very well, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mark

hi mark, if you go to the main forum page and click on boondocking and then click on the south, you will find a long list of free or cheap places to camp along the way. good luck!

South Carolina has some nice state parks. If you're into beaches try Huntington State Park or Myrtle Beach State Park for camping close to the Atlantic.

Drop me a PM and let me know when you're passing though, we might get a chance to meet on the road.
