There have been a lot of accidents this year on national park trails. So be careful. I got into trouble in Moab at Arches N.P. on the trail to Delicate Arch. I was out so early that no one was ahead of me on the trail and I lost the cairns that marked the trail over the slick rock. I ended up on a very hazardous slope instead of the good trail leading to the arch. I made it but it was a silly mistake. I think Capitol Reef and Arches are great national treasures but they require lots of moderate to difficult hiking to see the sights. Take a Jeep ride in Moab for a huge thrill.

We spent time at Dead Horse Point (near Moab) and Capital Reef early this summer. Both are beautiful places, but Capital Reef is one of our favorite National Parks. Enjoy.

Just left the Zion area yesterday. Had been there more than a week. Showers, thundershowers every day in the park thru Fri. Lots of big spontaneous waterfalls on the cliffs, a truly breathtaking display. Virgin river would rise and run red and muddy. Now the weather has cleared. They lifted campfire restriction in Watchman campground during out stay.

sounds great
we are in garden city right now...headed south tomorrow to deer creek state park at midway....
has anyone traveled utah highway 39 from the bear lake area south from woodruff to huntsville.....the road is listed in the truckers mountain directory with a "very narrow" road advisory..
.it says "between huntsville and ogden hwy 39 goes through a narrow canyon for 5 miles...there is little grade, but it is very curvy, not too wide.......the road is probably wide enough.....but just barely...
thanks for all the input

We decided that if the only place in the world we could camp was Coulter Bay in the Grand Tetons, that would be ok with us. Have fun.

There is a full service campground in Moab, next to the Colorado River (west side of highway) that's delightful.
While I know you're headed for Moab. Dead Horse Canyon State Park is fantastic. It only has electricity, but the view (near the campground) is priceless.
You're in a great part of the country!!

movin on
we left deep creek and headed south to huntington state park....neat little place on a small lake...then onto green river state park bounded by a golf course it is a neat little oasis in an otherwise bleak desert......
now we are in moab, just got here and settled in the moab valley rv camp just at the intersection of US 191 and utah 128 just south of the colorado river.....
will spend the next two days scratching the surface of arches and canyonland national parks ...so much to see and do ....where does one start in only two days.......not....oh well
i have been thinking of./...when we head towards capitol reef....i will travel south on US 191 to Blanding ...where it intersects utah 95 and then turn north and go towards hanksville,,this will take us past the natural bridges national monument and across the colorado river as it enters lake powell....anyone been this direction???
thanks

King', you will not see all of Utah in the time you have set aside. You will only get a brief taste.
Canyonlands could be explored for weeks, but these days you need permits for 4wd areas (not needed when we did it). Check it out, learn something, come back and explore further into the remote areas. You'll have to leave the trailer at a campground and some 4wd roads are too narrow for a big truck, but the memories are amazing. You'll need a tent and sleeping bags and hiking boots, but it is worth it.
Natural Bridges has about a 600-800' hike down into the canyon to see the bridges. Escalante has an Airstream campground and the NM there is worth exploring (without trailer). Don't forget Bryce Canyon. There are a number of Utah State Parks in the southern part of the state worth seeing too and they have good campgrounds.
There is a pretty good pizza place further south on the main drag in Moab; it is on the west side, maybe at or near the corner of Center. There used to be an Italian place on the west side right in the midst of downtown; I think it was the Bistro.

When we got to Capital Reef, we intended to stay at Fruita which is the campground in the park but found it crowded, sites too close together so we left and we went down the road to Rt 12, this road is worth the drive and is beautiful! 12 miles up is Singletree Campground, the host Ralph is really nice. The campground is open, plenty of room, private with great views of the Henry Mountains. No electric, but the bathrooms are clean. Head south on 12 from there to Boulder (un-hook!) and drive the Burr Trail on Rt. 12 - spectacular! From Singletree go south on 12 to 1 mile past Escalante to the Shooting Star Airstream RV park and drive-in. Full hook-ups, and every night Mark, the very fun owner, shows great old movies in his drive-in. He has spotless 1960 convertibles wired with heat and sound - you pick which one. Ask Mark for a tour of his 8 retrofitted Airstream trailers. A great day trip from here is a beautiful drive on Hole in the rock Rd and stop at Devils Garden. The coolest rock formations we saw. Going further south on 12, to Kodachrome Basin State Park which is 9 miles south of Cannonville off of 12. If you can call ahead for a reservation for one of the 4 electric sites but even without elecric, it is worth the visit. Great day hikes inside the park. immaculate bathrooms with showers. Amazing rock formations. We un-hooked and went to Bryce from there. We stayed at Watchman in Zion, very crowded but full hook-ups. You can walk to the tram to see the park. The drive into it is stunning. We were also there during the hard rains but it was beautiful to see. Should you find yourself in southeast Utah check out Goosenecks State Park - open camping on the rim of a canyon with 50 mile views - amazing! Have fun! We sure did!

We were in Moab a few years ago, and were tired of MacDonalds and other roadtrip fast food. Found this steakhouse on the top of a bluff overlooking the city lights. Typical steakhouse menu, not extraordinary, but all items well-prepared. Prime rib was very good, but the view was what we enjoyed the most.
It's at the north end of Moab, just off of US 191 on a private road, a short climb from the highway, with limited parking if you are towing. There is probably room for your Airstream, if they aren't too busy; plus, there is a loop in the parking lot to turn around. If you plan to take your Airstream up the hill, I'd call ahead to make sure there is room in the parking lot.

I think you are talking about TexMex, not Mexican food.
