Gulf shores state park Alabama
Looking to try a new park and would like to know if any one has stayed here before and what they thought of it.
Also I didn't know what the temperature range would be like in Mid March. If any one is familiar with the area.
Thanks George

My wife and I were there last March. The temps were nice. The park is very large, like a subdivision. This winter we are camping on the west coast of Mexico with a great many Canadians.

Rust,
March is one of the best times of year here in L.A. (Lower Alabama). We still can have a few cold snaps but they are very short lived. I did see it snow an inch or so once in March, just stayed on the grass. They shut down everything here if there is a CHANCE of snow, and it always melts on the streets and sidewalks. Make sure your A/C is working too, it might hit 90 degrees, at least the humidity isn't so bad that time of year. Mostly though it will be beautiful.
Lots to see in Mobile, not too far away.

I can't comment on the campground but I know the area very well and the whole Orange Beach area is friendly and beautiful. I spent most of March in Pensacola last year and got quite the sun burn. If you are relaxing anywhere near a polished trailer I'd be very careful

The State Park in Gulf Shores is very nice and well maintained. The beach is beautiful with white sand and a great fishing pier. Wonderful shopping and the seafood is fabulous...non better. Since you would be a "snow bird" there are activities planned in town for you if you would like to participate. Sometimes people like to divide into groups according to what state they are from. I don't know when Mardi Gras is this year but there could be parades. Mardi Gras originated in Mobile,AL. The whole area is beautiful and the people are friendly. We are just 60 miles away and visit the area frequently.

I have stayed at the park many times. Keep in mind that the park has no shade what so ever. Between the storms and fires the park has experienced in the last few years most of the ground cover and trees have disappeared. Recently the park went thru a major overhaul. Full service hookups all work. The new swimming pool becomes the central hangout during the high heat of summer. It is free for registered campers. They show nightly movies for the kids with free popcorn at the little outdoor theater. The months of March and April are very pleasant. Not too hot and certainly not too cold. Clean white sand beaches are close. They also have a pay to view or fish pier. Alabama is very proud of their expensive out of state fishing license.

Just left that park after a short stay. It is very clean and very big! I think something like 430 spaces or something close to that. With that said, the spaces are far enough apart that it is not uncomfortable and the lack of shade was not an issue during the cool weather that we encountered. They have an extensive series of walking and biking trails and, of course you have access to the beach for all of the walking that you could want.
We found it to be a very nice park, central to the Gulf Shores activities and close enough to Pensacola and all that it has to offer. We will do it again.

Been there several times.
Lovely park and beautiful part of the country.
March should be a perfect time to visit, temp-wise.

Great Area and Nice Park
Hey Rust,
We live in the area and really enjoy the campground. March is a great time to visit as there are tons of festivals and events. It is also just before spring break season starts so warm without the crowds.
Send me a message and I would be happy to recommend some activities and attractions.
